So.. those of you that have your v2... how are you hooking up/routing the HDMI cable with the case on?

Hi Im going to use hdmi extension with flat cable http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1114278873...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT not sure how I will mount it in rf modulator place might try cable ties for now
Kipper2K has something useful:
http://kipper2k.com/a500extra.html
and I'm sure I've seen in some photos of his setup that he built a converter from HDMI male (which plugs into the Vampire) to pin header.
Think it's reasonable to assume that pretty much everyone will realize that the RF modulator is of little use. However... not everyone will want to alter the original case, I guess...
Personally, I'll remove the RF modulator and likely mount some kind of 3d printed bracket with HDMI connector.

Maybe I chose my words poorly. I know it fits. I mentioned a 3d printed backplate to hold a connector. So room for plastic around the connector :-)
What I meant was that there are ppl (purists / collectors etc) who don't wanna alter the original look of their Amigas by permanently removing a part from the motherboard which can also be seen from the outside.

Yep, exactly. I'm fairly sure you could fit HDMI + two vertically placed USB ports in the space. I've never done anything 3d printing related, but this might just motivate me to... once I finally get my board, that is. :)
Is it easy to remove the rf modulator? I'm not as handy with a soldering iron as I'd like to be.
can anyone here suggest the best and cheapest hdmi cable for the vampire. ive heard that bigger cables can pop the card off?
Any updates for preorders?
Actually, if you haven't seen it yet, Modern Vintage Gamer did a new Vampire video and mentioned this cable:

You can upload a kick start whenever you like. Again a link to the detail is in the first post.
Kickstart uploaded.
Yep. These are being soldered and shipped by majsta alone (I believe kipper2k is soldering for his orders) so anything more than 2 a week is good going. I am not holding my breath, but this year would be nice.
Hi all, I must say that lately I didn't had too much time to solder but this will change. As you probably know I m working on multiple projects in parallel and that takes a lot of time. Same time I need to solder and work on other models of Vampire. Situation now is that I can solder one Vampire card in half an hour but problem is to find that half an hour :) I know that you are impatient but more and more good news will come when all settle.
I need a very slim hdmi (to go inside the A600) and a standard size one for the monitor. The one he shows seems to be standard on both ends? Does he use an adapter? Not very clear.
i think mini hdmi or micro hdmi might of fitted better on vampire 2 has people reporting when connect cable pops the vampire off the cpu has tight fit.
That has more to do with the dimension and stiffness of the cable and less than of the connector being used. I found a thin and rather flexible HDMI cable which I think should be suitable. I guess I'll find out when I receive my board. Also, the cable could be tied to something in the correct position to relieve any stress from the Vampire board.
Which one does the Vampire have? Micro or mini? I would like to buy before hand. Any links to the best hdmi cable (from people who already have their boards) would be great.
Cheers
I have my Vamp and have tried a few cables but need a male to female so I can put the female end on a board and put it where the rf module was ,this is ordered now

On my side I will try to build something with this extension:
https://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/201237722776
Maybe will use the extension door with a 3D printed model...
Male side on that one looks too bulky if you still have floppy drive. (It also looks a bit stiff.)
But 3d printed backplate has crossed my mind too. But maybe there's a bit less space there than you remember.
Check this pic

The wide female mount with screws in your link would come very close to the PSU connector.

Thanks eXeler0. I can't see your picture on my phone but will check later from computer. I got your point though... For the price of the cable I'd thought I would give it a go, even if I need to modify it... Or to keep it for the Vampire II for A1200 haha.
I don't have my V2 as of yet, but I just got an HDMI cable which I think will be suitable. The connectors are small and the cable is thin and flexible:

I then intend on putting a gender changer in the RF modulator location, hoping I can secure it there somehow:

Is there room for something like these angled adapters? If they fit it could let you use a cable that normally might tend to pop the Vampire off.

What about this?

The cable is probably fine, but I think you wanna fix it to the case somewhere so that you don't pull the Vampire card directly if you happen to pull the cable on the "Amiga end".
(That would be the big advantage of having a short cable to a female connector.)

its fine... my A600 is sitting right on the desk next to my main PC monitor... it isn't going anywhere... ill just organise it in a way where the cable doesn't get snagged.
This one has a panel mount - http://www.ebay.com/itm/121347589764 so it can be fitted to piece of metal/plastic.
Not sure about cable thickness and size of plastic around connector, but I'm ready to cut this. Buy one, still wait for delivery.
I know this will require case modification but I think an HDMI Keystone and a 1ft HDMI cable would work best. I purchased this combination:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=6853
http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13576
The question for me is, do I remove the RF Modulator and tie the keystone to the logic board or do I modify the back of the top part of the case. Decisions, decisions.....
Thanks.
Seems to me we are over-discussing an issue which might point the only weak point of the engineering of this masterpiece board.
I think this is normal until someone confirms a good, working solution and points to the exact parts used to get there.
Until that happens, everyone is kind of experimenting and a few are bound to buy the wrong stuff.
Asking a lot of questions before buying a bunch of cables and adapters is cheaper than having to re-buy stuff, ey? 😁

My point is: what a strange idea to have integrated an hdmi plug and not a classic 10 pin connector like all graphic cards have and on which it would have been easier to install a ribbon cable and an interface like kipper2k Indivision 1200 RF modulator replacement board...
But I'm sure someone will come with a neat solution someday, maybe 3D printed. I have a design idea but not the software to make it.
Cable quality becomes very important for TMDS video signals especially at higher resolutions and frame rates that's why Kipper2K doesn't yet sell his ribbon cable based adapter for the Vampire 2 with any guarantees. Until the graphics core is finished and lots of testing has been done he can't be sure at what clock rates it will work reliably.
If there is a vampire 1200 version made, where is it going to be announced here on amibay for pre-order or direct from the apollo core website??
There's another item that would probably help some Vampire 2 owners: a microSD extension cable. Just thinking, you would easily exchange cards if you could mount something like this on the case: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-62cm-M...MAAOSwQItT21PV
(not related to the seller in anyway btw)
I would suggest people wait for the kipper2k hdmi cable. It works really well so far, just needs to be validated at higher screen modes, and it fits extremely well :)

Thats it ! 😛
Thanks kipper2k !!!!
*** edit ***
... With some spacers under the PCB I'm sure you can centre it even better in the RF modulator case hole... 😉
