Nice A600 "kipper2k inside", by the way, with the lovely CF card adapter, the VampireII and now this cable... 👍🏻
Ye it looks like one of the more elegant solutions, however..
1. Not everyone will wanna wait to get an order from Canada, especially as we know kipper2k is busy for the next 2 years or so 😁
2. Removing the RF modulator is not for everyone. It actually not as straightforward as some might think. 😎

Yes, it seems like I might need to rethink my HDMI installation with the gender changer, however I can still use the HDMI cable for other things so it is not a complete write-off. :)
I like the Kipper2k version and I already use his VGA adapter with my Indivision, however I am not confident I will manage to get one any time soon, considering how busy he is.
I've ordered a small and flexible HDMI cable in combination with a HDMI angled converter which I'm going to try to use:

Source of the flexible HDMI cable please?
Sure, I bought these items:
HDMI cable: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/0-5m-Ultra-Sl.../191324559194?
HDMI female-female angled adapter: http://www.ebay.nl/itm/HDMI-to-HDMI-.../151515336654?
@CrazyBob thank you for info. I had hard time to finally admit to myself that there is no way I can place socket to better place on Vampire. So it is left there and I can say that was worst solution regarding usability but only option to have good bandwidth. But also I did know that people will find a way :)
Majsta : I'm way down the pre-order list, so would it be at all possible to pay any difference for the " turbo " version of Vampire that's mentioned over on apollo-core forums ?
Many thanks if possible.
Gebes if you read the forum already i think you find its aprill fools joke, ps Big Gun has mention possibility of a turbo expansion socket for the a1200 version ie a place to put a faster fgpa in i think.
LOL , If I've fallen for it then they got me, but with everything they're doing and keep fine tuning the cores, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if at some point at came true :)
It's not an April Fools joke. Kipper2k usually supplies the vampire 2 with speed grade 8 FPGAs. The Turbo version will be supplied with speed grade 6 FPGAs, these cost a lot more though. I believe Majsta has used grade 6 so far. A turbo version of the core will be required to take advantage of the faster FPGA and the increase is not huge (about 20% has been mentioned.)
To be fair, a 20% increase above the current performance doesn't seem too minor to me. 20% faster than "damn fast" to "really damn fast" will be sweet if it really manages that! According to Gunnar in the forum it's not an April fools http://apollo-core.com/knowledge.php...e=724&z=2GaBah
As I stated on chat and maybe never mentioned here. One of the benefits of this pre-order was in the fact that all cards send from me are with speed grade6 FPGA. Those who received their cards can confirm this by looking at FPGA and founding that last two letters on FPGA part number is stated 6N. This should be "slow" model part number EP3C40F484C8N, and fast EP3C40F484C6N.
Are the ones coming from kipper2k built with the 6 also or the 8?
he sends 8 grade and for additional cost he sends grade 6. Price difference regarding those FPGA models is significant if you look at the shops.
But the ones from you at the same price are always 6?
Sorry, I must have missed reading that there was any difference. I had thought that all Vampire IIs were the same specifications.
As i have understtod it, all Vampire II is the "same" for now. BUT later there will be option to overclock if you have FPGA grade "6".

This was said earlier today in the apollo forum.
[12:04] <Scull> Another question, We who have FPGA grade "6", how is "turbo mode" archived?
[12:07] <BigGun> there are several options
[12:07] <BigGun> we consider to bring out a version which can be speed-selected byt the user
There is no overclock, FPGA are very sensitive and there is no two of them who will behave the same. There is performance range who will be accepted by all models in same series but the same time there will be one chip who will be able to do 30% more for some reason. Speed grade is IMHO just marketing trick who can't be proved easily, there is no serial number to prove it anyway. There are 8 grade chips who can do more than some 6grade. This requires serious testings who takes time. If kipper2k decided to do them, with tools we have then I m happy for everyone who receive such boards, because trust me, there is huge difference. I won't perform those tests now but from what I have tested before cards done by me were capable to give much more. Also, one more thing, SDRAM chips used, some will go to some amazing speeds some not. So to conclude this, we have tools to test this, it is tricky, but if kipper2k or someone else in the team say to you that you are getting faster version then this is true. And that has nothing to do with cards send from this pre-order list, those should work good at higher speeds, well maybe but in time you ll get proper tools to test that on your own card. I m sorry that my answer is somehow unclear but trust me when I say, when I solder one card like it have mind on his own :)
Still wondering how long we should wait to receive card from preorder.
I read somewhere that if someone order a new card to Kipper2k now he will see it shipped 7 weeks later.
Tempting... But I'd rather like to have a bit of news from Majsta for our cards... A little weekly update with the number of cards built and sent would be great. I can't see any change at all in post 1 which would give me a bit of hope.
I'm not impatient (I know there is lot to do with the Vampire A500) but the lack of communication on deliveries is killing me... And surely many others.
Okay. I should have looked closer. And before you previous shipment was 16th of March?

To sad to see that some people want to make money out of this... :(
Well he got a quiet "nice" ;-) message from me now.
I'm curious what he will say or do now...
Don't judge, guys. Maybe his wife just discovered the expense and has asked him to sell back...
Okay the guy is not making extra money out of the card as he told me. He payed 150€ for the Vamp2 plus 35€ shipping and another 45€ for taxes (19%).
Edited: was 45€? For Taxes from
Canada to Germany. I some cases people have luck and don't have to pay since not all
packets go through the customs.
Still waiting when people on the "waiting list" can pay to get the card? How does that work? Do we also need to preorder?
I don't know if it's possible, but if Kipper2K is getting them out faster, would it not be possible to stop new orders and he help complete all those that pre-ordered ? Even if it was to say insert a couple at a time from the list on page 1 and do a mix of pre-order and new order
I know demand has been high, so maybe when any future Vampire model comes out, between Majsta and Kipper2K those that pre-order, it'll be setup this way. Rather than one person doing pre-orders and another taking new orders, as appears to be happening now.
This isn't a slight, It's a learning curve, and maybe something that in some way could be taken on board ?
Hi Kipper,
is it actually possible to buy a Vampire V2 for the A600, or are they all sold out?
If i can buy one, how long does it take to get one card if I pay today?
Hi,
You will always be able to buy one as they are not limited editions, at the moment i have over 200 requests for orders, and i have a batch of 100 boards ordered, with another batch of 100 being ordered in a couple of weeks. If you send me an email request today it will take approx 7 weeks to see your order. Boards will arrive to me partially assembled to save time, i hope to be able to make about 10 a day, parts and time permitting so it is not that bad a wait... a lot of retro items can take a lot longer, I dont ask for money until you are in the nexrt batch... i will be sending requests to a lot of people later in the week for money.
Send me an email to kipper2k@shaw.ca with the request and i will work through the list.
Insured shipping to Europe is 32e when you include paypal fees (not having a dig but I wish people would include them in pricing when it's the only payment method available).
Import duties for electronics in Germany are 14% and 19% depending on how you file the item so that's 25 or 33 euros.
My Vampire didn't get stuck in the customs but when you have to file customs every few years it's really really time consuming to try and figure out the correct item category and often times I'm pretty sure I ended up with the wrong one.
insured shipping to Europe from canada is on average 21 Euro, i charge $25 USD for most countries in Europe that have tracked package options. paypal fee is 4%
so total cost to Germany would be $26 USD (22.82 Euro)
I was unclear but I included the Paypal fee as an expense that is reflected in the total fee paid for Vampire, it's shipping, and duties.
I paid 25 euros for my shipping (+paypal:p) and you quoted it as the price to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Portugal, France, Spain, Sweden & UK.
Edit: Anyway I'm no way a party to any of this and I'm only trying to point out that it's very much plausible that for someone in Germany has paid a total of (150+25)*1.04*1.19 = 216.58€ for a Vampire.
On top in UK we need to pay admin charges up to £15 depending on the postal company.
just got my card. Thanks very much. Now comes the time to install it. Im finding it very wobbly and im not keen on the idea of sanding down the pins. Can I just leave it as is and then glue the hdmi lead to the outer casing so it doesn't yank the card about?
does hdmi come on on first boot?
the vampire board is connected?
Probably just a bad connection on the CPU socket, please try reseating the vampire card
tried reseating, tried cleaning contacts on the cpu and socket with isoprop. Been using anti static wrist band the entire time. Vampire is bolted down firmly and wont budge (followed kippers instructions) Still black screen? Hope this card isn't a dud?
We have tried to debug it online, card is dead for some reason and will be replaced. I ll tell you more where went wrong when I get it. Bad luck what can I say.
Cheers for the help Majsta
just got my hands on a A600, how can I get my hands on a Vampire 2?
Actually... May be this thread should be closed and a new one created for waiting orders?
Apparently it is still confusing people.
