looking for fully working commodore 64 or 128
What sort of price/condition are you looking for?
good to excellent condition as a it fully works and somewhere under £100
I can do the excellent condition (almost no yellowing) but as it's UK Serial number 6 I am not sure about the <£100
Also, the RF shield is signed by Bil Herd. Fully working, clean, signed and uber-low Serial Number.
The RF Shield is actually outside the machine so you can see the sig (there is another original one inside to do the job so you get 2, the signed one to look at as well as the functioning one).
If you are willing to raise your offer let me know.
Sorry, forgot to say it's a C128. I can throw in an adapter to convert the 80Col output to RGB too if you are interested.
I am new to vintage computers so don't much about them and it is a pal machine I am looking for and what is 80col to rgb
if is there anyone who has a working c64 or c128 - don't know which is better for games
for playing games get a C64 (Cheaper and smaller), not many where made for the C128 as that was aimed more towards business hence the 80 col mode and the reason why a C128 has a C64 mode.
then for 100% compatibility either a Datasette for tape games or a 5-1/4 disk drive (1541).
best output to a TV would be an Svideo cable if your TV supports Svideo. (C64 cant do RGB only RF or Composite (A/V))
for better reliability at a very small loss in compatability get a SD2IEC disk driver emulator, simply put games on an SDcard rather than real 5-1/4 disks and for faster loading times have a Jiffydos ROM installed in your C64, (fast load cartridges only speed up the 1st program loaded, so if the 1st program is the loading screen then the rest of the games loads at the default slow mode. So Jiffydos is best here and then free's up the cart port for something else)
oh, don't forget at least 1 Joystick :), ask if the machine is PAL (if it doesn't say) and ask if you buy a disk drive if it comes with the serial cable and any needed PSU's that work at 230v UK.

What is different between c64 and c64c
nothing from a gaming point of view.
slightly different sound chip 6581 vs 8580 (many prefer the 6581 usually found in a C64 Breadbin model)
C64 is slightly smaller and is what I remember from my school days, the C64C is modelled on the shape of the C128 and Amiga computers.
in what way is the sound different from 6581 sound chip and 8580 chip
