DblPAL DblNTSC in Early startup menue?

Hi,

with boingbag2 I think, the RomUpdate brings two new features to the Early Statup Menue (DblPAL and DblNTSC).

What's the point about it? I didn't figure out, how to use it. I thought, it could be a clever way to start an Amiga without a gfx-card on a simple VGA (non-15kHz) monitor. I hoped, there is some kind of keyboard shortcut to activate DblPAL right from the early startup menue. Is there any (like "Help"-key for early startup screen)?

I dont think you could get 31Khz VGA compatible source directly from boot, you would have to select this mode at runtime. But I shall look into this as I am not 100% certain.

DblPAL & DblNTSC are not 31Khz as VGA is on the Pee Cee. They sync at 27.5Khz & only true Multisync Monitors will go this low.

If you can find a user with either an NEC3FG 15" Multisync or a C= 1942 monitor, I'm sure they could clarify these modes working at boot. You would need the C= Video Dongle too.

@Zetr0: For what purpose they put it in Early startup, when not activating it from there? "Original" and "best available" make sense, no doubt. But a DblPAL/DblNTSC feature that you can't access without a 15kHz compatible monitor seems to be quite senseless. :huh:

@Kin Hell: sounds reasonable. I wonder what happens exactly, when selecting this from Early startup. I couldn't recognize any difference, because I use a TFT on my PIV-FliFi.

A 15Khz monitor will only do PAL/NTSC.

You will need a monitor capable of 27.5Khz for DblPAL/DblNTSC

I guess the Flicker Fixer on the PIV is stabilising the pic for you, but normally, you see a shift in the entire screen for it. Having said that, I'm pretty sure your TFT won't sync @ 27.5Khz, so you wont see a screen shift & the PIV is stablising the display in default mode @ 15Khz.

Some monitors accept dblntsc well like my vision master pro 510 monster did.

It is not a multisync solution but the high quality pc monitors seem to work in the margins...:roll: Of course it will loose display as soon as it gets other modes no way down to games etc...

I successfully got my A1200 working on DblPAL with my TFT. But still I didn't get the point, what is the benefit the extra options in early startup menu? Maybe I'm just stupid, but please tell me the secret :D
