Amiga 500 RAM/IDE Board

Hello, I have a few RAM/IDE boards for sale. The board
has 2mb of fast ram and an ide interface. It can be configured
with hard drive and cd rom drive, or two cf cards. One card
is used for the Amiga os, the other is formatted with fat95 file system.
The fat95 card can be used to move files between your pc and the amiga.
The cost is $120.00 plus shipping. that includes a hard drive and cd rom drive. The cf card version will include a dual cf adapter and one 2gb cf
card. The card without any drives is $80.00 plus shipping.

The device is internal but you can run your cables to a device outside the case. :) It would work in the A1000 but it will not physically fit in one. Post in the following thread if you are interested in one that will fit in the A1000. If Tom gets enough interest then he will design one!

nice pictures.. looks like it does not block where the indivision will go but does cover the rom socket.

I would have to change my rom switcher.:mad:

The cfide68k device blocks out the indivision which is handy to know.

Has anybody tried one of these + indivision?

Where does the 100uf cap go? I don't see it on your board. Does it go underneath?

Using the picture as a guide, there is provision of a through hole postion to the left of the 68K socket - it does state 100uF with the (positive) lead to the top (back) of the 68K socket

Well yeah. I see that both in the pic and my own board that I'm making... I just don't see the Cap itself in the pic...

I want to update and improve an A500 for my brother's kids to play away on. It's been awhile since I've done any work on an Amiga, so I'll need some extra help...

Would adding Tom's 2MB card be a worthwhile replacement for this setup:

The machine I'm working on will primarily be used for gaming and already contains a SupraRAM 500 expansion in the internal slot that is still functioning, so I get 1MB total RAM currently.

Also, does the card have or need any supports underneath to prop it up off the mainboard? How would the CF drive hookup be routed if that option were added? Any additional pics out there would be handy.

So far, I've got this A500 running on an RGB/S-video converter successfully but I need to get a internal drive replacement as the current one is giving a lot of errors.

I got some help from others and I think this is a good fit for my A500.

I'm interested in the board, and maybe with the CF drive. Will PM, I need a little more info on what's involved with doing the install.

Does the A500's RF shielding still fit with this board installed? Also what Kickstart roms are compatible if i want to use a hard drive? (i'm guessing at least 2.05 - 37.300?).

To quench your questions: both the controller & RAM are not auto-configurable yet.

But the RAM only uses a tiny program to be mounted. The IDE controller software is advancing.

Both can be used on 1.3 & 2/3.x.

The auto boot drivers will come on a motherboard ROM (simple swap). All current users will benefit of it.

Development is done on spare time (me and another great guy) and on occasion.

Would this work on an A1000, and any chance of 8mb of ram possibly.

Only I have ADide and external 8mb on your wonderful zorro adaptor but having it internal would be much better.

Would love the CF adaptor version so A1000 could boot from one of these.

It is small enough to work in the 1000. I never tested it with other hardware
attached to the amiga bus. I really did not think of using it the A2000 because there are so many controllers,memory,accellerators,etc... for
this computer. I do have a few of the old boards left. The new one will be
better since it will have 4mb ram and 1/3 the size!!!! I will try to assemble
one after the holidays!!!!

From your past posts I assume you have a a500.. You would probably need at least kickstart 3.0 non-aga rom installed..

Not sure about the performance I would think at least 020 would be recommended for wb 3.0 and also the IDE board has a cpu cycle plenty for driving a IDE hdd directly from the CPU I would think WB 2.05 be a better choice performance wise..

There's no 3.0 for non-AGA machines.

3.1 is available and can run flawlessly on plain 68000. As for the Workbench, simply install WB3.1 into the boot partition (a new HD or CF) and you must upgrade a COPY of the boot floppy to 3.1 and all is done.

Is the IDE driver that's loaded from floppy the same one that's in the A600 2.x kickstart?
If so, can you place an A600 kickstart 2.x into an A500 and have it autoboot with this IDE drive?

Or would one still need to REMUS a custom kickstart???

And have my A1200 with the 3.x....

No, it is not. This device uses a custom IDE software.

No, the current IDE executable is not able to be turned into a module, and it is way too big to fit into an EPROM.

As I told before, formatting a 3.1 FFS disk for booting and make it bootable is no sweat, just copy the contents of the original OFS boot disk into the new one and problem solved.

Any 2.0x kickstart will work on A500, even the ones intended for the A600.

When the Gayle part of the kickstart code tries to load (IDE & PCMCIA controller), there is no Gayle in the machine, so the code is just ignored and will not consume a single byte of memory.

It's an A500 and I already installed the 3.1 ROM.

How do I "upgrade" the boot disk?

Also, I PM'd tomthul and he said he would get back to me with a list of files to put into Sys:. Is that what you're talking about?

Format a floppy on WB3.1, then open a CLI (Shell) and type (no quotes):

"install DF0:" <-assuming the bootable floppy is in the internal drive.

Then do a copy of the files from the 1.3 boot disk to the new one.

Finally copy matching files from Workbench3.1 to the new bootable disk (to "upgrade" the files to latest version). Don't replace startup-sequence, nor user-startup in the S: drawer!

Commodore never sold it, but I saved the kickstart from an A1200 in a shop (Dixons) and ran it on my a500 using a blizzard board. Prior to that I used 2.05 from an A600 from another shop (Tandy's).

I got rid of the blizzard board and switched to using mkick, before finally buying the 3.1 upgrade when it finally became available.

The 3.0 rom has some bugs on OCS/ECS but they fixed them in SetPatch, because a lot of people were running it.

I formatted my primary CF card with WinUAE and now can't get it to recognize.

How does one do the initial configuration in the first place? (Mine was done for me.)

Was anyone supplied instructions?
