Apollo 1240@25mhz + 32mb Ram (Mach131 chip so can be upgraded to 060)

Hi!

I bought this card only last week to replace my broken Apollo 1240 and only a few days ago I found a very good deal on a Blizzard 1260 so I'm selling the Apollo 1240.

The card is a very nice example, no battery leakage and runs perfectly. I subjected it to several hours of WHDLoad & Doom/Genetic Species/etc over the last week and no problems at all :thumbsup:

As per the title this is an 040 @ 25mhz (about 19mips) and comes with 32mb Ram. This card has the Mach131 chip so it is possible to upgraded this card to an 060.

I'm asking £140 + P&P (£5.50 in UK by special delivery) EU, etc please ask for quote.

Hi my A1200T has a rev. 1D4 mobo, no timing fixes to my knowledge.

The Apollo is working fine with this board as does my new Blizzard 1260

I also used my old Apollo 1240 with a 2b board, no problems with that board either.

Well I still have the brown box and innerds for it somewhere. Has a 32mb SIMM and FPU. I don't have much cash but I'd like to help with anything he is also in need of.

One thing I'd like to know and it's how 'ready' is it for a 060? Is it just a case of getting a 060 cup and plugging that in or is it more complicated?

You will need to add a 3.3V regulator minipcb onto the CPU side & replace the Eprom as well as a few SMD resistors moved about..

I think Zetty has done some in the past

That is correct the 32mb of memory is all mapped in the 32bit space so there is no conflict with the PCMCIA slot :)

Recieved the card, but I have a problem, once the amiga has booted to workbench after a few seconds the amiga will crash the h.disk light goes out and the power light flashes, then I have to reboot the amiga, and once again it crashes, if I take the Apollo 1240 out it works fine, no crashes? any ideas.

PSU.
Try with different PSU as yours seems to be too weak.
ATX PSU is recommended for A1200+Apollo 1240+HDD setup due to high power consumption.

I have a heavy duty power supply (says power box on the front of it), it works fine with my hawk 8mb ram board?

Is it standard A1200 PSU?
If yes - it's just labeled "heavy duty" but in fact it is not...

No it looks like a psu from a pc, but it is encased in a box, has loads of different power leads at the back, was using it to power the supply to my cd-rom connected to my amiga.

It should give enough power.
What you can try is to clean edge connector in your A1200 mobo by 95% alcohol (ethanol). This will remove all dust giving better contact so more power can be delivered to Apollo.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I used it in my Tower and it was running fine for several hours.

I tested it in my Desktop A1200 powered by an Amigakit ATX-Amiga PSU and it ran fine also.

As you are using and ATX PSU now maybe its a workbench problem?

Hopefully these guys can help you out getting it running with their knowledge, if you can't get it going in your system you are welcome to return it for a full refund as long as no damage has been done to the cards when installing.

Your best bet is probably Isopropyl alcohol, rather than Ethanol. You can usually pick it up in electronics stores. Maplins certainly stock the stuff.

Vodka - 45% vol of ethanol.
Not the best but better than nothing

blankstare might be near the mark RE: the Mobo Fixes & alot will depend on the Revision of A1200 motherboard you have.

Both of mine are 1D4, I don't think they have had any timing fixes - there's no jump cables are anything on the mobo's.

Please clean edge connector - if doesn't help please boot form floppy into pure WB3.1. Maybe there is some problem with your system configuration (patches, config, ...).

it's the compatibility issue with the mobo, you either need the timing fixes done (which may or may not work) or change your mobo to a 1d1

@Zetr0, it was a 1d4 board i had issues with wasn't it? the one where the timing fixes didn't work? then the 2nd 2B board and the 1d1 were both fine?

Before you Install the 040 Card, make sure you Install the 040 Libraries first. If it was a dirty contact, the Miggy wouldn't boot at all. Personally, I think the Libs Install will sort you. ;)

I've had the same problems with my Blizzard 1260, it could be that you need libraries, but I bet the PSU is too weak for it.
I also use ATX powersupplies mainly because they have a lot of better protection against shorting, overload, overheating e.t.c.
Your standard Amiga PSU is not going to do that, not even the A4000 ones.

My 1D.4 thats in one of my towers refuses to work with my Apollo '060 and goes straight to guru from Workbench, even after booting from the original floppy disks. This mainboard now has a Blizzard 1230 Mk IV connected and it runs very smoothly.

My other tower also has a 1D.4 mainboard and yet the Apollo runs perfectly okay. No tmiing fixes have been done to the board so I also think it's luck of the draw as JuvUK mentioned back in post #43

Luck of the draw has nothing to do with it. Electronics is not a Chaos theory.

The timing fixes in regards to the 1D.4 A1200 motherboard are only the removal of two capactitors - E123C and E125C respectvely - Removal of these capacitors eases the timing margin of the 7mhz clock that some Accelerators struggle keep to.

It is wise to point out here that we are dealing with nearly 20 year old equipment as such these little beauties develop a uniqueness all their own - some if it is down to capacitor age, some down to aging components all in all it addes to some ecentricities that can throw out the rule book in some cases =)

I would suggest if anyone has the time to read through the various fixes are suggest on different motherboard revisions. (thanks to Stedy for his most diligent work in this area)
