IDE-fix Express and Apollo 1240

My IDE-fix Express won't work with Apollo 1240, when I connect the IDE-fix Express to the motherboard it will not boot up sometimes it goes to the insert disk screen and sometimes it just stays on a black screen, if I remove the Apollo 1240 it boots up ok, anyone got any ideas I have searched but can't find any info? :help:

We need to test if the device is working.

can you boot from an Workbench INSTALL disk and acces HDTools and see any attached Harddisk devices?


I have a other few ideas, and I think it could als be part of the following

1. IDE Reset Fix.
2. Motherboard timing fixes depending revsion.

If I boot without the cable that connects the 2 boards together it boots up fine from the hard drive (cf) card, if I connect the cable it won't boot from hard drive (cf) card and when I boot with the install disk with the cable connected and acces HDToolsthere is no hard drive detected?

2. Will the CF/IDE HDD boot with the Gayle Adapter connected and not the Apollo?
3. Does the Apollo Boot with just IDE adapter connected.
4. Does the Apollo Boot with rgw IDE adapter and GAYLE connected (no HDD)

Yes tried it both ways it gives a warning if wrong way round.

Yes works fine without the Apollo.

LOL, that "rgw" is infact a typo it should be "the"

LOL, yes it boots up with the install disk with the hard drive disconnected with the Apollo connected.

okay, after all that we can say that the trouble is when its trying to pull data from the device.

this could be a compatability issue, so lets see if we can isolate that -

Have you tried a regular Harddisk ? like a 2.5" drive or perhaps a 3.5" IDE unit?

Yes, just dug 3 2.5" out of my amiga box of bits and they all do the same as the cf card, also tried 2 different cf cards, still no luck :(

Not got a suitable 3.5" to try.

And just to confirm these IDE devices work with the IDEFix + Gayle adapter without the 040?
