Cheap solution to EPROM programming

Got the Willem today. Now I'm struggling to get it work. When I turn the Willem SW on, I get access violation. I can select the settings for the ROM but when I try to read, I also get access violation. I got Win 7 and a USB to parallel adapter. I'm also powering the Willem via USB. I've updated the IO.dll.
What to try next?

Are you sure that it will work on USB->LPT adapter?
Please try on PC with real LPT port.

At least the adapter advertises to be suitable for EPROM programmers.

Have to see tomorrow, if the docking station in my work laptop would have a parallel port.

Got it working with my work laptop and proper 12 V DC adapter. Also changed to eprom97g version of the program. I think the problem was the program revision, lack of power and correct LPT port address. Have to give it another try with the USB adapter later.

It reads the ROMS with no hassle but have to do some fine tuning with the writing as it fails. I need also find my self an EPROM eraser. :shrug:

Found a reasonably priced eraser from the other bay. I managed to successfully erase and program one EPROM with the SVI-728 bios. :D

Now to test, if it'll revive my 728....

As a cheap alternative, you can borrow the UV lamp from the Retr0bright tank and expose the chip to the light for less than 10 minutes and it will be erased.;)

You can get the Top 3100 programmer from FleaBay, but it's around 140 UK sobs. Not cheap...:blink:

Simply put the EPROM under (and very near!) the lamp and then count no more than 10 minutes of exposure. Test on the programmer to see if it is fully erased. If not, expose again for no more than 2 minutes at a time and re-test.

Not cheap, that's true. But please try to connect Willem via LPT port to modern laptop/netbook. ;)

I know it does work, I just don't know 'why' :)
