I'm presenting a unique opportunity to be one of the first to own the new version 1.6 of the Open Source Scan Converter.

What is the OSSC?

A scan converter/line doubler/tripler/4x/5x which takes RGB SCART (or component, or VGA) input, and produces HDMI output suitable for a modern television or monitor.
Amiga users may be familiar with scandoublers - this is that and more.

The OSSC is an open-source projected invented by marqs, who frequently provides firmware updates to fix issues and add features:

OSSC is unique in that it is extremely fast; latency is <2 scanlines. Other video processing solutions often add multiple frames of "input lag" to a signal which can affect perceived reaction time in timing-sensitive games such as fighting games; OSSC does not. Input lag will be restricted to that of the display itself.

The OSSC is highly configurable and comes with a remote control to allow you to switch inputs/modes and use its menu system. From there, you can tune sync settings, signal filtering, line multiplication modes, configuring "scanlines" (for CRT-style effect) and much more.

Here's a quick example of Parodius on the PlayStation being output in 1080p and displayed on a 28 inch 4K computer monitor - it's a stunning picture!

This new version of the OSSC adds the ability to pass audio over HDMI - so external cabling/add-on boards are no longer required to hear sound from your input device. Audio is digitized and included with the HDMI signal, so your TV or receiver will let you hear it.

Thanks first and foremost for doing this open source as I'm very interested in learning from such projects and maybe do mods in future. This truly is a thing of beauty.

Since I'm only interested in MS-DOS and custom cases I'd love to have one of these in the form of an expansion card which you put in your computer case and power from a 5V and/or 12V connector in your PSU, because my impression is that analog dvi is dying a slow death.

Interested in one... how long it will take to ship it since payment.. I'm in Spain

Don't thank me - thank Markus Hiienkari aka. marqs - I'm just assembling a few of them. :) Although I have tried to contribute by submitting a couple of PCB fabrication fixes back to the project.

Thanks for the interest - but I won't be taking payments from anyone for the unassembled boards until they are finished and tested to be working.

You are next in line after the previous two members.
There is also a chance that board #5 will become available, which is ready to ship, but a local buyer has asked me to wait until he has money. I'll be offering it for sale here if they cancel.

Status update: A board was assembled and successfully boots up, however it has problems maintaining a stable sync signal - it may take time to debug this. Sometimes things don't work out first time! :)
I'm moving straight onto assembling another board as I'd like to get a.mi.goun and xyzzy's orders fulfilled ASAP and it takes less time to just put another board together than it does to find and fix faults.

Status update:
Board #3 appears to be all good! Doing some final testing and will be PMing xyzzy soon to organise payment/shipping.

I think I know what's wrong with Board #4 too, so watch this space.

Package received last friday, I tested it a bit during the weekend:
- Amiga 1200 -> SCART -> OSSC -> Dell 4K
- Amiga 4000 -> int. flicker fixer -> VGA -> OSSC -> Dell 4K

Gorgeous output!

Will test audio + advanced settings in the next days, but so far everything looks great so far even with the default settings.

You are very welcome, I'm thrilled that you like it! :D

Audio should "just work" too, although if your Amiga SCART cable doesn't carry audio, you can use the 3.5mm jack closest to the SCART connector as an input - the switch hidden next to it toggles this jack between being an input and an output (breakout) for AV1. :)

Working on the last OSSC today, hopefully I can get somewhere with it shortly.

A heads-up to everyone who bought an OSSC so far:

Firmware version 0.78 has been released by marqs! Your OSSCs are currently running a pre-release version which I compiled, which was necessary to enable the new v1.6 PCB's integrated audio circuit.

You can now update to the latest official release which now contains support for your boards as well as a few other minor fixes.
Your boards require the "-aud" flavour of the firmware (for audio).

1. Get a spare microSD card - the contents will be destroyed so make sure it contains nothing useful.
2. Download ossc_0.78-aud.bin from marqs' webspace: https://www.niksula.hut.fi/~mhiienka/ossc/fw/ (click here for direct link)
3. ** Download Win32DiskImager from SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
4. Insert the microSD card into your computer.
5. Use Win32DiskImager to write ossc_0.78-aud.bin to the correct drive letter for your microSD card.
6. Safely eject the card from the PC and insert it into the OSSC.
7. Switch on the OSSC and find the "Fw. update" option in the menu.
8. Follow the instructions and then restart your OSSC.

** For Linux/macOS you can probably use the 'dd' command to raw-write the image to the card.

If your remote control becomes de-sync'ed after the update:

1. Turn off the OSSC.
2. Hold down the right button (BTN1) and turn on the OSSC.
3. Follow the instructions on-screen to re-bind the remote control buttons. You can refer to the following diagram to restore the original layout:

I am 100% interested in one of these should you craft another batch. Was looking at getting a DIY kit myself but it's just beyond my ability.

I decided to go ahead and produce another batch of 10x OSSCs about a month ago, but thought I'd wait to gather all the parts and make some progress on assembly before announcing it. :)

I've updated the first post with the new batch status.
A few members contacted me privately through PM some time ago to enquire about another batch, so I have added a RESERVED status for those units in the first post - javidoom, mambrino and a.mi.goun.

Could those members please reply below to confirm their declaration of interest on the reserved units? Thankyou!

For this batch, I'm supplying a different model of remote control - it's much easier/quicker for me to source, but still gives you all the buttons required to operate the OSSC. I'll actually be updating the OSSC Wiki shortly with information and a suggested button map for this remote control to help others who are looking for one (e.g. for building DIY kits).

This remote does not have the "learning/copying" functionality like the other one, however it's a little bit more compact, good build quality and does come with vast array of control codes if you're interested in using its spare profiles with other infrared equipment.

Here's all the boards as they currently stand. I've actually soldered well over half the components to all of the boards (though it doesn't look like it - most of the tiny resistors/capacitors are underneath! I changed to a more parallel method of assembly to prevent losing/mixing up parts. This means that hopefully I'll be able to release/dispatch most of them in quick succession.

I'm estimating they should start to approach completion over the next couple of weeks or so as I'm working on them almost every day, but please allow for the odd delay/hiccup as is always possible with hand-assembled projects. Updates will be posted here as always. :)

Finally, as before, I won't be asking for payment until your allocated OSSC is fully assembled and tested. Payment details will be sent to the interested parties when their OSSC is ready.

I have the acrylic ready to go, I just need to find someone willing to supervise me on the laser cutting machine.

Yes, as mentioned in the first post, these are the latest version with integrated audio-over-HDMI. :)

Update:

7 boards assembled total now, with partial testing complete. Everyone who has declared interest so far has a PCB ready to go!

I am expecting to have the laser-cut cases on Thursday, and am also currently gathering shipping boxes.

OSSC #13 should be assembled in the next couple of days.

OSSCs #14 and #15 have been withdrawn from sale as I need to keep them for now.

This means that right now, there is only 1 left for sale.

Your OSSCs are pretty much ready to ship - cases have been made and shipping boxes are here. :)

Problem: I've reached a funds receiving limit on my PayPal account and am waiting for PayPal to complete additional identity/address confirmation to lift the limit.
They tell me it will take approximately 3 working days. Until then, I cannot accept PayPal payments.

If anyone is happy to pay me with a wire-transfer using their bank and get their OSSC faster, send me a PM and I'll give you the details.
If you prefer to use PayPal, I'll update the thread when this is sorted.
