80€ now...
Nice board. Very rare
I've seen enough go by that I wouldn't call them 'rare', but they are renowned as (one of) the best network cards for the Amiga and therefore quite desirable. A very sweet piece of hardware if you want to put your big-box miggy online. Good luck with the sale, Jon!
Not quite rare, but it did take me many months of searching to find one. It's very stable/reliable, and the only network card that seems to play along with my Delfina Lite (no more crashing while streaming netradio).
Price drop to 80€ + shipping etc.
Yup i sold mine a couple of months back and as AndyLandy says they are very good. I got mine installed and running within the hour, nice and easy. I recommend using it in conjunction with MiamiDX.
Cheers,
what's the difference between this and the II+ versions? Since I have 2 of those and none of these.
But yes, great cards, had 2 of my A4000s networked with my xbox and 360 at one stage...
Ariadne "1" have a parallel port.
Ariadne 2 doesn't, but have a socket for booting from LAN (demands a special ROM on the location).
Feature-wise they're pretty similar, but they are completely different designs using different chips. Ariadne 2 is full duplex. Ariadne had the parallel ports, Ariadne 2 had an expansion header that was never used AFAIK.
I had both in my A2000 simultaneously, and (using Miami) ran tcpspeed a few times on each. Ariadne was 3-5% faster in receiving than Ariadne 2, and roughly 20% faster sending to my PC. In practice, there's really no noticeable difference and both work just fine. IIRC, the Ariadne 2 was Holger Kruse's number 2 recommended card after the Ameristar A4066.
