I have a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k recently refurbished and in full working order.

This spectrum has been lovingly refurbished by me and every function has been extensively tested and is fully working.

The machine has has the following work done on it:

  • Case and rubber mat have been fully cleaned inside and out
  • New rubber feet have been fitted
  • The keyboard membrane has been replaced with a new modern one
  • Motherboard has been recapped with modern blue capacitors to match the originals
  • Composite video mod has been performed so the Spectrum can connect to modern displays
  • Voltage regulator has been replaced with a 90% efficient modern one which produces little to no heat
  • Edge connector has been cleaned
  • Full tests have been carried out of every part of the machine

The following tests have been carried out:

  • All keys on the keyboard work
  • DIVMMC cartridge works (proving the often problematic M1 line of the Z80 works)
  • Various games have been loaded and made sure they play correctly
  • Tapes LOAD via the EAR port
  • Tapes SAVE via the MIC port
  • Full 48k of memory is tested fully working
  • ULA test has been performed
  • Soak tests have been carried out for hours testing general reliability and potential overheating issues
  • Speaker works

Hours of time have been spent making sure this machine is in full working order.

It comes with a modern switching power supply, which will be more reliable than the unregulated ones Sinclair provided which can cause the Spectrum to run hot.

The fitting of the modern voltage regulator also means there is no need for a heatsink. The stock 7805 voltage regulator was horribly inefficient and as a consequence produced loads of heat. This modern Murata voltage regulator is 90% efficient and puts less strain on the power supply unit as it draws around half the power of the original for the same output.

It also comes with a jack lead for loading and saving tapes and a phono cable for connecting to a composite input on the TV. So, this Spectrum is ready to plug and play, providing you have a way of loading games :)

The Spectrum is in pretty good cosmetic condition. There are no major marks on the plastic case. The metal keyboard plate has some small marks where the black paint has been scratched as you can see in the photos. One small scratch can be seen on the rainbow stripe.
