    Default A3640 GAL chip upgrade

    Hello people.

This thread is simply for transparent purposes. I made a deal with Dale/Dopefish for an upgraded GAL chip + socket for my A3640.

I'm planning to use this upgraded A3640 3.2 on my A3000D, but it still refuses to work (damn bugger!), even with only FPM ZIP chips installed.

Now that I have a MC68040, it's time to uprate & upgrade the CPU board to achieve decent speeds.

So, I want the 3.2 version of U209 for this purpose. All the other parts (except maybe the 64MHz crystal) are sorted.

    Dale: your turn, my friend.

    Question

    @rkauer:

SuperDMAC rev 02 refuses to run reliably past 30 Mhz on my A3000. What rev is yours?

    Thanks

    With socket?

I'm planning to keep the board @ standard 25MHz for now, maybe push it up to 28MHz if I can find a 56MHz crystal (they seem hard to find around here, in Banana Land).

    -----------------

@SpeedGeek: mine is a standard A3kD originally with 1.4 ROM (no ROM tower, thanks God!) & DMAC02, now 2.04, the 3.1 ROM I was waiting seems lost in postal system.

I have a latest Buster 11 sacked from a dead A4k, but no upgraded DMAC. Also RAMSEY7 here.

I'm pretty sure a DMAC4 is out of reach of my pocket, even if I find one...

Forgot to say: mine is the 16MHz version, with 68881 FPU...

Cosmos, I think I'll get troubles with anything past 56MHz. Thanks all the same.

So the GAL + socket will do for me ATM. Can you PM me your Paypal deets, good sir?

Did you tested SpeedGeek's GAL hack? Then that content on U209 can unleash a bit more powah of the A3640.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've been thinking about new my a4000, and the a3640 in it.

It's a Rev 3.1. I have the ability to upgrade it to a 3.2 socketed GAL, but I'm wondering if, in an a4000, it's worth the work/risk?

According to The BBOAH, the difference between 3.1 and 3.2 is around making the board work well in a3000s.

    Thoughts?

Nope, upgraded A3640 solves DMA Zorro cards bug, even using two DMA cards at the same time (one must be on Zorro-2 mode).

I take it that you no longer require my chip and socket?

If so, I can use them on my own board.
