Default Help This Clot Wire a Button to the HxC Floppy Emulator

    Hey peeps,

I need some help for tonights project, I want to solder a 'push to make' button for the 'Button Select' as this will allow me to reset the HxC and I'll be able, at least for now to use it without the screen.

I've got jumper pins to solder in place, which I assume is the best method here and then use a cable with header plug soldered to the switch?

Only thing confusing me here is that there is only one pinout per button, so where do I solder the other side of the cable?

    Any help appreciated

    Steve.

I would suspect to ground vss - but please wait a little I am not sure.

You can take all the buttons out as well, with Keith his hot air station they drop out like popcorn

As jvdbossc said, you need to tie Pin 8 (Button Select) of the header and Pin 1 (VSS) to your switch.
I haven't gone with the chart though (I used for safety continuity test with multimeter checking every pin one-by-one).
Don't worry though. This should be just fine

Internal header is just fine (without even having to remove the original buttons).

    Awesome mate!

Thanks for the reply & thanks jvdbossc for your advice too

I will solder in all the pins anyway but for now just wire one push button for middle button and use without the screen.

Then I work on my super secret screen plan, fitz-a-hack Mk1

    Wish me luck

(I watched a you-tube vid on soldering pins, looks easy - Famous last words...)

    Good luck my friend.

I don't get though why you only solder the middle button
Middle button just selects and ejects. Without being able to seek, what will you select?

Unless you work with the OnScreen application.

Exactly, just working with onscreen display for now till I work out how I want to mount the screen - I really don't want to cut the case lid so I will use without the screen for now

And with onscreen display its 100% fuctional for what I use it for i.e single or two Disk ADF's

If I mount the screen and buttons later then I'll already have all the pins in place so thats why I'm going to solder them all in. Really it sould have already come with these in place

If I'd have understood about this before I'd have soldered them at Zetr0's as it would have been a doddle on his workstation

    Steve.

    @mfilos - I know you told me, but I didn't understand before!

    Hey Guys,

How'd I do? (My first attempt at PCB through-hole soldering)

Do you think it looks ok? Wondering if I should get some more flux on there and see if I can tidy them up or do you think I could make it worse?

Cleaned the board and now its chillin'

    Steve.

    ps, I LOVE Flux

I would be happy with that Seve, I am a starter as well. I think you got a few lessons from someone.
