Building a full-sized cockpit

Nice work with the grips!

I acquired the CH Combat Stick and Pro Throttle gameport versions second hand and relatively cheap some years ago. I recently upgraded the stick to USB with an upgrade kit and planning to order another kit and do the same to the throttle. I’ll also upgrade the pots in both to hall sensors.

Thanks Protek. My HOTAS is a gameport version too (Saitek X35/36) which i plan to transplant into the new housing. I believe it will be a small nightmare, but will figure it out. But in case something goes wrong, there's always alternatives like the LeoBodnar - MMJOY 2 solution. Let me know how the upgrade worked for you mate! Yesterday i got me a projection screen:

I managed to install it at the mancave today.

And i managed to do an initial test:

Had some more 3D-printed parts arrive today for the throttle quadrant and for the joystick:

I also got the throttle rail guide, in full metal from the US:

I got my conversion project finished today. Now both my CH F16 Combat Stick and CH Pro Throttle are converted to USB using MtwSims conversion boards, basically an Arduino shield that can be configured using the MMJoy 2. Also the pots in the stick and throttle are replaced with contactless sensors. I did a quick try today with DCS A-10, and it is a joy to fly. With the stick I used a shift register board with the conversion board to handle the buttons on the grip. In the throttle, I simply connected it straight up into the column and row pins of its conversion board. I also got a shift register board for that but at the moment it’s redundant. I do have plans for it, though, as it enables me to add more switches to the throttle. All in all, I’m very happy with the conversion.

Last parts of the pedals arrived yesterday! This concludes the 3d-printed parts:

Also the last knob i was missing from the throttle quadrant:

Another update on the rudder pedals. I have finished assembling the mechanical parts of the set.

Had to do some threading to the aluminum parts using a hand tap:

I've still to finish the electronics of the assembly, but i managed to flash the Arduino software already.

It's been a while since my last progress report, but lots of parts are being built. Here's my latest work on the HUD block assembly. Now, this looks pretty raw for now, but after the remaining details are added, some sanding, filing and putty, this will look a lot better..

Unfortunately, not. I've actually just recently moved to a new house, where the new "mancave" needs lotsa' work...

That doesn't mean progress has stopped, but it is way slow!
