I wonder, is there anyone here who could make the cable up for me that is described here, say 2m long should be ok:

willing to pay of course.

I'm afraid that you need a circuit because signals are different..
Cheers,
Oge
Hmmmm, I'm not so sure. The other thread has a pretty good photo of the card, and there are a couple of opto-isolators in the top-right, right by the DB9, which suggests the signals are MIDI-ready.
@Ratfink:
* Is the DB9 male or female?
* Do you want the cable to terminate in male DIN-5s (to plug directly into MIDI gear) or female DIN-5s MIDI sockets, so you can use standard MIDI cables between the breakout cable and the MIDI gear?
* Do you need dual MIDI in / out, or just one of each? (Edit: I see that the second MIDI in/out is disabled in the most common mode of usage, so I presume you're after a single in / out, yes?)
Ok, the DB9 on the card is female [ie. a socket, not pins].
Regarding the DINs I reckon I will probably only be using one in/out pair in practice as I've only got one external MIDI device at the moment. On the other hand...
... if I'm getting a cable made then I'm tempted to get dual in/outs just to cover all eventualities. Unless of course it adds too much to the cost/complexity of the job.
Well the little information about this card that's out there seems to be conflicting - according to this thread http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopi...b8980b21b1ca77
(Which I presume you've seen since that's the same pic that appeared in your previous thread) the MQX-32M can do dual MIDI in both directions, yet the more plausible of the pinouts you found only shows one in! Is your card definitely the 32M?
Anyhow, if we can figure out excactly *what* needs making I can make it up for you.
Yep that's where I got my picture. My card looks almost the same and has the following printed on it [same as pictured one]:
MQX-32M Rev.B
The two big chips U11 and U2 [top right and bottom left] on mine have stickers on that read:
Copr 1988 1990
Music Quest
MQX32M U11 024
and
Copr 1988 1990
Music Quest
MQX32M U2 021
The 1990 date suggests - but I suppose does not prove - that it's the later one. Where Malik's picture has a sticker, mine has printed on the card:
(c) 1990
MUSIC QUEST, INC.
FCC ID: IH9MQ32
I've since found this link which appears to add the use of pins 2 and 7:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/l.../message/26703
as follows:
Pin Function
1 MIDI in 1 positive (DIN connector pin 4)
2 MIDI in 2 positive (DIN connector pin 4)
3 GROUND
4 MIDI out 2 positive current (DIN pin 4)
5 MIDI out 1 positive current (DIN pin 4)
6 MIDI in 1 negative current (DIN pin 5)
7 MIDI in 2 negative current (DIN pin 5)
8 MIDI out 2 negative current (DIN pin 5)
9 MIDI out 1 negative current (DIN pin 5)
If we assume on the basis of the dates that my card is the later revision that Davros's quote referred to, then I guess this fuller pinout should be what's needed.
It doesn't help with the cabling I think but that paragraph looks like it could be from here:

That's great, much appreciated. Is the above enough to go on?
Here's the pictures of the area near the db9, as discussed by pm.
