RGB-Component Transcoder from 2006

I thought a few folk might be interested in the RGB-Component Transcoder from 2006 that I remembered I had and dug up in the shed today.

I used to have a Topfield 5000pvrT PVR that had a major issue with colour over-saturation when outputting Component video and this device took the high quality RBG output from the SCART connector and converted it to Component (almost no aussie gear has SCART and I was using a Yamaha AVR equipped with component and HDMI to switch video sources to my screens).

I cant test if it works yet as my RBG-SCART cable hasnt yet arrived but i've taken some deconstruction photos for those who might be interested in how it works. AFAIK it was designed for PAL 25/50hz so it's very unlikely to work but hey it's fun to explore niche gizmo's.

it looks promising but why omit the audio output? it's just 2 more rca plugs and offers great convenience not having to hack your equipment or it's scart cable to get the audio signal...

We were all using Toslink for DD5.1/PCM (home theatre nuts) so the analogue audio was superfluous.

based on the fact that my TV syncs the amiga input directly on the ypbpr input, I have no doubts this will work, but I reckon you'll have the opposite issue now, with reduced saturation



it may be possible to add some trimpots to adjust the "gain" on that device...
or, it may work fine to begin with! shall be interesting.

Interesting, my RGB-SCART cable shipped from the UK yesterday so hopefully I'll have everything I need to test it in the next week or so.

Btw, does your TV support 15khz sync normally?

its a cheap cheap TV I bought from The Warehouse years ago (was cheap at the time... what I paid isn't considered cheap anymore)

Well I finally tried out my RGB-Component transcoder and got a similar result to you, bright Green became a mustardy yellow and it only synced on my 50" Pioneer Plasma Monitor, my Sony Bravia TV & Samsung LCD Monitor refused to sync at all.

Anyhoo, I finished off my Miggy-GBS-8220 cable tonight and it works great!
