i share your anger, how humiliating that LG (LuckyGoldstar?!) seem better for retro consoles.

But then i can't have an LG tv in my lounge
What's wrong with LG? They've come a very long way since the Goldstar days and are just as good, if not better than Samsung at the moment (i feel Samsung TV's and PC monitors have dropped in quality over the last few years)... LG are currently one of the top electrical brands out there!

I've had my LG TV for the last couple of years now and it's still trounces over some of the latest models from other manufactureres when it comes to picture (and even sound) quality! It uses a nice S-IPS panel with 2ms response time... Great colour accuracy, detail and speed! Perfect for gaming

Both Samsung and LG are Korean brands, so i wouldn't be surprised if they share components (lots of companies use panels and other components from different manufacturers). Even the highly rated Dell Ultrasharp IPS monitors (and others including Asus) use LG panels, so they can't be that bad

Having a nice big TV from LG is nothing to be ashamed of

I suppose it depends on your point of view but LG to me has always been a budget brand like Goodmans etc. I prefer Samsung, Sony, Toshiba etc.

I would think of LG as being like Hyundai/Kia or Skoda, you know the cars have improved but you still don't really want one

Interestingly, before LCD TV's were commonplace, Samsung was very much a budget minded brand like LG was. They only really took off and made a big dent on the market by being Microsofts TV of choice for the Xbox 360 launch.

LG just never seem interested in marketing their products, which I think would explain why it's still seen as a budget oriented brand more than Samsung.

I used to be picky about my brands, but nearly every large compnay uses items from rivals to the point that it feels like we're all buying the same device with a different Case and tweaked GUI. (Android phones spring to mind here)

It always make me laugh when I see opinions about brands like this. A lot of so called budget brands are manufactured in the same factory by the same people using the same components as the big brands. The only difference is they stick a different badge on the front and then stick £200 extra onto the price tag.

Well Samsung and Sony have developed their lcd screens technology in collobaration with each other over the past decade so i somehow doubt that LG is sharing in that level of technology

Anyway i think we are diverging from the thread topic

Been at the (now annual) Retro Gaming Exhibition (Retrospelsmässan) here in Gothenburg, picked up these beauties for a decent price even though I arrived a bit late. They sorta underestimated the number of people coming so I had to stand in line from 11.45 to 12.45-ish, thankfully the line was full of other retro nerds so I had some people to chat with.

First find: Sega Arcade Stick in good condition for £xx, very happy with this.
This baby should work fine with my Amigas and C64 too I reckon.
Pounded away a bit at Castlevania and Thunderforce III with better precision than a gamepad, that's for sure.
(my brain is programmed with joysticks, what can I say)

Was also persuaded to buy this Playstation 1 bundle by a seller for about £xx:
Console, power+AV leads and two cotrollers. Also picked up that Duke game for another £2, what the hell.

All in all plenty of good deals to be had if you wanted hardware, they sold loads of NES/SNES bundles for reasonable prices.
Software/cartridges were sold more at a premium imho, but most of the sellers were professional stores (at least part time).
Same guy also sold Sega Saturns for a killer price, but I was too late to the show to get any of those. Oh well! Still very happy.

PS. Now I know why the PSone controller was so cheap, some oxydization on pad left, R1 and R2 so had to break out the isopropyl alcohol and some cotton swabs.
    Working awesome now.

Candle from atari age etc has made a very limited number of 'incognito' boards for the Atari 800. Will makes it XL compatible, with ultimate 1mb board and a SIDE (flash HD) built in.

I'm lucky (so lucky!) to get one as a prototype tester, hopefully I'm not breaking any implied rule with it as its not available en mass... but here is a pic as mine arrived today! I do have a few sm resistors to change and a link wire to attach... I am v v happy. Awesome!

He is a very clever chap is candle!

    @Retrograde

Nice finds there, but can you edit out the prices please

(It could be seen as price driving, but I know you don't mean it that way)

Enjoy the new toys, especially the Arcade stick

Hi cknott, I was thinking of getting one of these. Do these get picked up automatically by WinUAE or do I have to mess around to get it working?
