    Default Atari 2600 'Woody' Cleanup

I recently got a job lot of Atari stuff and finally found some time to strip down and give them a good clean, the difference is astonishing, they almost look like new after washing them cases in warm soapy water! I used a soft washing up brush to clean the vents.

Here's one of the cases, sorry no before picture but I wasn't expecting as good results.

I have two types, 6 switch and 4 switch (I have two of the latter and a 2600jr as well) I'm not sure if the 6 switch is the heavy type or not though. Can you tell from the pics of the Motherboard?

I'm always surprised how clean these old systems are inside too

It's weird how they put the RF modulator inside with the cable coming through a hole in the case...

Will do some testing later! I still need to clean the Game labels

    Good job, like new.

I also like my stuff clean. It's so much easier when plastic is black and doesn't yellow.

    I say if the six switch you are referring to is the one in the pic then no it is not the heavy sixer. This might be useful to help spot;

Nice cleaning job btw. These do come up lovely don't they. TC made a very good AV upgrade for these which is well worth fitting.

Thanks guys, I'm really pleased with the results.

Thanks also for the info, I'll have to speak to TV about the AV mod

I too got me a 2600 recently A six switcher woody. A few original games and in quite good condition too.

I was looking into the AV mod as well, when I stumbled across a combined AV/pause mod. Something worth considering.

I also got a 6 button boxed woody about 3 months ago, a little tip just in case you need it. I found that the buttons did not work very well, they used to operate at the slightest touch, or not work at all. All I did was to spray a little WD40 in the slider parts of the switch and that completely solved the problem.

    Thanks for the manic23

Here's some more pics now they're back together!

Picture is pretty decent on my 40inch TV!

    I do love Galaxian

And the Sixer, it's not the heavy one as far as I can tell, it works well but has some vertical lines on the screen which is a little annoying.
