Well, if anyone should still hesitate despite his references and reputation, allow me to assure you that 'hese' is the to-go-to person for all your hardware problems and services. He's done an amazing job on my A4000D boards, gave very good feedback, priced his services fair and transparent and even surprised me with pretty fast processing. I'm certain there's quite a few dedicated repair-guys and -gals out there, breathing life back into crippled Amiga hardware - but sadly a lot of them eventually fall flat in either feedback, pricing or speediness.

Thank you for the feedback, Hyotenka and turican5. Glad to be of service (y)

I've added an option to replace overheating PAL chips of A3000 motherboard with cooler running replacement parts.

As a side note, received a BVision PPC card that had a capacitor and it's pads ripped off. No repair too small...

Hi I have an amiga 3000 motherboard for repair I have tried new chips everything. And no luck the Paula and Denise chips have soldered on the motherboard due to heavy battery corrosion leaks also traces has been repaired underneath and top of the motherboard new kickstart ROMs and and new battery fitted but still no luck just a black screen with waves of green slightly can I be possible for you to repair this for me if I can have a price to get this rework done that will be great thanks mark

Yes, I can give it a shot. A3000 motherboards are the most troublesome to repair when it comes to battery damage. Once I fixed a battery damaged A3000 that had leak (sticky gooey) practically under every chip on the left-hand side of the motherboard (Amber, Agnus, Paula, chip ram, ... side). Each chip (50 or so chips) had to be removed, board cleaned and corroded traces fixed. Not for the faint-hearted...

Amiga CD32 repaired and recapped

Amiga CD32 repaired and recapped

Amiga CD32 motherboard was received for repair and recapping. A few capacitors had begun to leak on the board. Some of the smd capacitors had been removed in previous repair attempt and a few pads lifted off the board in the process.

One trace under C854 was corroded broken due to capacitor leak and a few more around C864 and C890 were also damaged. Capacitor area was cleaned, reinforced with solder and broken trace repaired.

Missing pad repaired and new capacitors installed.

Finished board.

Amiga CD32 FMV module for recapping. The capacitors had not leaked on the board yet so the task was simply to replace the capacitors with new. The board was recapped with non-leaking polymer capacitors.

Cyberstorm PPC upgrade

Cyberstorm PPC upgrade

Cyberstorm PPC card arrived for a PPC processor upgrade. The CSPPC originally ran at 68060@50MHz and PPC 604e@233MHz. The PPC processor was replaced with a 400MHz version and processor speeds set to 68060@66MHz and PPC 604e@400MHz.

Apollo 4040 68040 -> 68060 upgrade

Apollo 4040 68040 -> 68060 upgrade

Apollo 4040 arrived for 68040 -> 68060 upgrade. The card had a 68040 processor running at 40MHz. For upgrade the original 68040 socket was removed and a new 68060 socket installed. Also a 3.3V regulator module and new Boot ROM was installed for the 68060 upgrade. The 68040 processor was replaced with a rev 6 68060 CPU. The original SIMM sockets were in a bad shape and barely held the memory modules anymore. The SIMM sockets were replaced with new ones. The 68060 processor was overclocked to run at 80MHz.

Had my GVP HD+8 scsi card back from hese recently, now working with my SCSI2SD adaptor. finally have a decent, quick mass storage option on my A2000.
would totally recommend if you have any issues, i was kept up to date and job was done quickly! cheers(y)

Apollo 1230 MK3 repaired

Thanks for the kind words, RobA1200. Good to hear it's working now (y)

- - - Updated - - -

Apollo 1230 MK3 arrived for repair. The computer did not boot with the card installed. The card had a deep scratch over several traces on the bottom side of the board. Also the sockets were in a bad shape. The scratched traces were repaired, the sockets removed and the socketed chips soldered to the card. The card works again.

GBA1000 68060 Turbocard assembly

GBA1000 68060 Turbocard assembly

GBA Turbo card and some parts sent to Hese today for assembly (y)
19.05.2017

The package has arrived. And also most of the other parts from elsewhere. I will update the thread as the assembly progresses.

20.05.2017

The first flux has been shed. The assembly was begun by soldering the small pitched TQFP and TSSOP package chips (hi plasmab, no microscope used/needed ;)). After that the rest of the SMD components on the right-hand side of the board.

21.05.2017

The power distribution section was assembled today, and a socket was installed for the CPU. The socket was a bit too large and it overlapped with the tantalum capacitors. But after some dremeling the socket fitted in place. Now waiting for the remaining parts to arrive to finish the assembly.

10.06.2017

The rest of the parts arrived and the turbocard assembly was finished. The CPLD chips were programmed with code that runs the 68060 processor at 50MHz, as the 68060 CPU that came with the card was rev 1 which max speed is most likely 66MHz or less.

After programming the turbocard was plugged to GBA1000 motherboard for a test. Unfortunately the card did not boot. The XC9572XL chip got burning hot within a few seconds after the motherboard was powered on. Visually there is nothing wrong with the card, all the solder joints etc. are perfect. Presumably the XC9572XL chip is faulty even though it could be programmed successfully. A new chip has been ordered, may take another few weeks before I can progress with the turbocard.

02.07.2017

The new XC9572XL chip arrived. After replacing the original XC9572XL chip with the new one, the board sprang to life. The board was tested at 50MHz and also briefly at 66MHz. The 68060 CPU did run at 66MHz but was quite hot and would require active cooling for longer periods. The board was programmed back to 50MHz and was stable during all tests.

The board is ready.

Cyberstorm MK1 68060 upgrade

Cyberstorm MK1 68060 upgrade

Cyberstorm MK1 arrived for 68060 upgrade. The board had a 68040 CPU running at 40MHz.

The upgrade was begun by modifying the CPU board. The 3.3V regulator and three SMD diodes were installed for the 68060. Also the voltage jumper was switched from 5V to 3.3V, a trace cut and a jumper wire soldered near the PALCE16V8H chip. The CPU board modification was finished by replacing the 80MHz oscillator with a 50MHz one and replacing the 68040 CPU with a rev 1 68060.

The carrier board was modified by lifting 74F257 chip's pin 2 off the board and jumpering it to ground. The carrier board modification was finished by installing a BootROM chip and enabling it by a jumper.

For more detailed instructions you can visit my Cyberstorm MK1 68040 to 68060 upgrade thread.

Oh, I didn't realise the original post was being edited - excellent progress and looking good, thank you for the update :D

Yes, I though it would be better to keep the assembly report in one post. Just waiting for the few missing components, may take a couple of weeks.

Just waiting for the few missing components, may take a couple of weeks.
No problem. Whilst I'm obviously as keen to have it built as anyone would be, the small wait means I'll have had another payday by then so it's all good !

I need to get myself in gear, work out the parts for the Picasso card and get them ordered up.

A few A3640s that arrived for upgrade.

A3640 #1
The first one needed new capacitors and rev 3.2 upgrade.

A3640 #2
The second one had already been recapped earlier. This one arrived for rev 3.2 upgrade, SpeedGeek's wait state mod that improves access to motherboard's resources (memory, ROM, etc.) and delay line hack that helps overclocking the A3640.

The original GALs were replaced with SpeedGeek's state machine code and U209 programmed with rev 3.2 code. Delay line hack was done by cutting the CLK90 trace from U103's 10ns tap and moving it to the 5ns tap with a wire. For the oscillator, a dual socket that takes both half and full size can oscillators was installed. Notice the improved memory access latency index (8.1 -> 6.1) and better memory throughput (4.11 MB/s -> 5.49 MB/s).

A3640's overclocking was tested with a 66MHz oscillator.
