hello all,

well my collection of childhood computers is almost complete now as i have just picked up a ZX Spectrum.
i never had a 128 back in the day but i think it is a good choice due to the fact its got a built in tap deck - so i can load suff via wav and 128k so i can mess about with modern games and apps for it...

Specs

1988 Spectrum +2A
built in tape deck
128K
real sound ....oohhhhh
Light gun
joystick
manual
some Sinclair user mags

+++updates++++

+2e ROMs now burnt and fitted

diven3ea.rom
diven3eb.rom

so now its a +2e :-)

- you'll be pleased to hear that General Election now runs...

Faults.

Tape deck cover crack slightly
Pause button mechanism loose inside (was)

lots of awful games on boots cassettes :-)

16K
48K
and a few 128k games included.

had it to bits to clean it and it looks like its never been opened before. various bits of food hooked out of the tape deck and we are good to go..

now lets get Doom and Windows XP on it :-)

"General Election" ? :o

Erm, wha? Is this a game? I love the pixelated Thatcher picture!

Yeah a pants game from the early eighties lol , luckily it didn't load :-)

R tape loading error

i have to admit id forgotten how many awful games were on the speccy ha ha but some classics too.

Ive been playing wavs from my pc in to the 128 and playing some of the better games..

- the sinclair joystick is not so good :-(

Bombjack
turbo esprit
manic miner (god awful music !!!!!)

Ha, ya gotta love Manic Miner :)

Odd Job Eddie was another great one, and you know the most popular ones like Skool Daze, Jet Set Willy, etc.

A couple of my fav's from the old days, Wizzards Lair, the original Dizzy and Bumpy - this one was simple but addictive:

Have fun!

You cant beat a bit of Chaos, Midnight Resistance, Wec Le Mans, Target Renegade and loads of other classics on the Spectrum. I still play speccy games on ZX Spin for the PC and Didn't Spectrum on the Xbox.

You should look into getting the the +3e roms and do other bug fixes on the machine to get it run 100% of the games. By the way how did you get bombjack to work I thought it did work on the +2 and only on the 128k toast racks

im not sure bombjack worked to be honest it may of reset , i tried loads yesterday..

quiet a few just reset / black screen or R load error

i just kept trying tap wavs ..

lots of cassettes dont work, i had more success with the wav

Updated ROMs at some point will be the way to go but i have so many project on the go at the min that the speecy will be put away for the time being..

i have some roms and a programmer so i'll do the roms at a later date..

+3e spec

Get yourself a DIVIDE device Mike - they're brilliant! I've been playing Fairlight on my Spectrum 128 recently (with it's expanded music) :)

John

hi John,

mmm maybe later, im just not sure if i'll use the speccy that much really - with the vast ammount of tap images about why bother? also i prefer the c64 to be honest

mike

Yeah me too but sometimes nice to play the odd Speccy game (some were actually better than the C64 version). Also - I was amazed at some of the quality on the Spectrum 128kb Scene Demos! Made the C64 look average in comparison! This surprised me of course. I wasnt' even aware there was a Spectrum Demo scene hehe

John

yes true enough, some of the russian games look brilliant from the 90s

Play the 2 versions of Mortal Kombat on ZX Spin there are amazing for just being on the Spectrum lol

+2e ROMs now burnt and fitted

diven3ea.rom
diven3eb.rom

so now its a +2e

although bomb jack still reboots after loading lol

nice speccy, I always regret buying a +3. Games on floppy were quite expensive compared to their tape counterparts...

At least the keyboard on the +2 is waaay better than the god awful 48K/128K models...
