Hi,

the Gotek USB Floppy emulators are now working with Amiga thanks to a new firmware.
Main features : ADF read/write support, Amiga control software, USB key support (FAT12,FAT16 & FAT32)...

:)

USB Floppy Emulator

Any else seen this?

It takes a cheapo floppy to USB emulator and adds an Amiga compatible firmware so you can read ADF images from it in the same vein as the HXC emulators!

Yes. It's been discussed a lot on EAB. Here

It looks like a neat solution.

I wonder if you could do this for the Spectrum +3 as well ?

Its from China so it will probably take a few weeks to get here. If it works in an A500, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.

Threads merged as talking about the same item :)

This is most certainly a THING!

@H.M Mon remerciement sincère pour une grande écriture vers le haut!

(Gonna be making some external Goteck Floppy Drives ;))

I like the look of these a lot more than the HxC. Sure, the HxC is a lot more flexible in terms of formats supported and so on, however there's something about USB sticks that's just far more convenient than fiddly little SD Cards. And, of course the fact that this will properly fit inside my Amiga and not hang out of the front on a cable, although that is my fault for buying the uncased HxC, but they were roughly €100 for the cased version when I bought one and I simply couldn't justify the extra cost.

Shame there isn't any ST firmware...........I definitely be Interested then

Looks like a great piece of kit

I was looking at a hxc device for my 600 but this looks very promising.

So it plays ADF files without modification that hxc requires? That is very interesting if I read it right.

Define without modification?!!

Sure, you don't need to convert ADF files to HFE files (which, incidentally is painless with the software supplied with an HxC), but you do need to modify the device itself before it will work at all with an Amiga...

I haven't used either device but playing ADF files straight off the bat sounds cool but you are right as you need still to mod the device beforehand.

Not sure which one I will pickup yet will watch comments here

I have an HxC, but not one of these GoTek's (think i said that earlier, not sure).

One key thing is whether you ONLY intend to use it with an Amiga. I think that provided you're able to mod the firmware yourself, or know someone that can, and you only intend to use it with an Amiga then I think the GoTek looks like the nicest option.

In my case however, I actually bought the HxC for use with my CPC6128, long before I had access to an Amiga (excluding the one I had BITD), and I can quite easily see me using it with other things as well so I don't regret my decision to go with the more expensive option (I think the HxC has come down a bit in price lately but I can't remember exactly what I paid).

I'm still tempted to get one of these to dedicate to my A4000 though. It's just that I've spent too much lately!

I just read the post and the original on EAB and have sent off for one of these for my Amiga, I also bought a USB to RS232 adapter and downloaded the files needed to do the reprogramming. For the price its a bargain and if you read the Authors replies, He is thinking about writing some firmware for the CPC in the future. Whether He does or doesn't isn't as important as we now have a more reliable and cheaper replacement for the mechanical floppy drive

I do have an HxC but that is in use on my CPC6128 but the idea of using ADF files like I can on my Minimig is appealing to me and the reprogramming of the Gotek board seems from the description an easy task to do.

Well I am going for it just because its there/available :D
I already have some HxC's.

So the grey/white version and a usb debug cable is what I am after. I even have some pin strips that I will cut and solder in for a more tidy go at re-programming it (the solder holes are present)

What I am most interested in is... can you save the original firmware before putting on the modified one?

Will it only work with cracked disk images? I assume it will not allow IPF's?

Then the next logical question: will it work in an external drive case? (if it does then great)

The last question/request is! If the Amiga can work, then please lets sort the Atari ST out. Heck even other stuff could work like the C64, Spectrum etc :D
