Hello All,

My first Amiga usage was playing ProjectX on a friend's A500 around 1989 and that set the scene for me one day purchasing one.

Roll forward a few years and the A1200 had been released. I was unemployed and couldn't afford what looked to be my dream machine. Then as I was walking down the high street in Plymouth I saw that Jessops were selling off a demo A1200 at almost a third of the retail price. Advertised as being the Amiga only I didn't care, I knew enough about electronics that I could probably build a suitable power supply for it so I saved up my government cheque for a few weeks, spending as little as I could on food and other neccesities (not that the cheque covered them well even when you did spend it only on things you needed to live) for a few weeks, hoping that no-one would buy it in the meantime. After a few weeks I had the money I needed and trotted down to the shop to buy it. It was still there.

I was absolutely chuffed. As the salesman was pulling the A1200 out of the shop window he said they possibly had a few bits lying around in the back that he'd throw in. Out came a PSU, a mouse, a few games and a battered box. This thing was almost complete and almost new. I was over the moon with joy and took my pride and joy home and played Zool for hours.

Roll forward a few more years, and after writing many mods, rendering lots of scenes, learning to program (in rexx originally, and then some in blitz basic and C) a friend gave me his dying A4000/030. That A4000/030 has now been repaired (as of last month) and is sitting in pride of place on my desk at work.

So that's me really. I have a large history with the Amiga and it's still my favourite computing system. I'm having to re-learn a lot now to get the 4000 running how I remember they should be and I'm going to get my original A1200 up and running again, once I've gotten some parts together to restore it back to an original case and PSU.

I'm now on the look out for all those things I dreamed of owning, to go into my 4000, and I could do with a new front panel for it, as my friend made some modifications whilst he owned it to fit a CD-ROM whilst keeping the two floppy drives it had.

I'm glad to be on Amibay and I'm looking forward to being able to buy and possibly sell and to chat with fellow Amigans.

I remember the early 90's as well with no work, those were hard times not like today's so called recession. People just don't realise how good they have it these days compared to 20 year ago.

Have fun.

Welcome home, Pink.

Great read - welcome to Amibay!

My sentiments exactly.

So bless the Amiga, it taught me enough to become employable in difficult times and gave me a future where the government wasn't willing to give me any help.
