Hi all, before anyone gets too excited let me clarify a little.
This was my cousin's ipod and he brought it to me to replace the screen after he had cracked it.
I bought a new screen but then found out the little ribbon which controls the volume and sleep buttons also had a fault.
I replaced them both and all was well but then the sleep button stopped working again but the volume buttons were fine. I believe this is just down to the ribbon and may require a new one again.
I did manage to install a tethered jailbreak on the ipod so it should still be jailbroken but after jailbreaking i knocked the ipod off the table and due to the screen using double sided tape instead of screws to hold it in place it fell out and the ribbon cable connecting the screen tore so it will need a new screen again. The back camera has also tore so will need a new one of those too but the front camera is working fine.
We decided that after already spending so much it he was probably better off just replacing the ipod itself so that's what we did.
As i said all you should need to do is replace the volume/power ribbon, a new back camera and a new screen, fit them and it should be good to go.
Seems like a lot of work but its far cheaper if you've got the know how and time than buying a new ipod.
Some ebay buy it now links for the items required

Power/Volume Ribbon
