Rouge just "confirmed" over at aw.net that the new Amiga hardware will have a "Xorro" zlott... Nice mispelling that, isn't it? ;-)

It's Hyperions "most ambitious project". They lauched a teaser site a few days ago. Each day dropping more and more hints.

What we know so far is that it's at least 4GB Ram capable, 4xSATA, 8xUSB. Either 1x16PCIe or 2x8PCIe. 2x1PCIe and one 33mhz PCI and one "Xorro".

Other than that we don't know about "custom" chipset, that'll leak tomorrow. And we know it's a PPC CPU.

You can dig/follow here

Here's a closeup released earlier:

Also, it's unclear if this is a sneak peak of the case:

Indeed, I can't wait to finally play with OS4 on that puppy. Now what to put in the Xorro slot?

New Amiga mobo with its own case. Sounds interesting. Also the specs looks modern now. It was time I think.

Sorry to say.. The site can be just a teaser..

Do not like the way information is given there (n)

Would of course be great news for many os4 users(y) I just hope it HAS the custom chipset of the AMIGA some way or the other..

I guess backwards compatibility would also be nice; I wonder if there'll be an 68k emulator released for it, to play old Amiga stuff on new Amiga hardware?

I think I may need peril-sensitive sunglasses for looking at the cost of this machine though....

Is there any point in making the machine if there is no software for it? Whatever OS it running they should get it running some of the killer apps with portable code that are now common in computing environments. It is too much of a quick win to avoid porting Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice etc...

And maybe even try and get something specialised for the new system going where there is an open source niche - like maybe video? There is no decent open source non-linear editing program yet. How about that? Trading on the Amiga's reputation of video applications? Is that not a good idea?

Just wait a little more. It will not be only the motherboard and the new version of AmigaOS.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get excited over OS4 and modern PPC Amigas. To me, it's just some PowerPC motherboard, running an OS that's barely compatible with classic Amiga software. I would buy one as a curiosity, but I expect that'd be far out of my price range. I'd far rather throw the money at an '060 classic miggy.

Still, not wanting to pee on your party, it is cool and exciting that there is new Amiga hardware. It'd be nice to see it become popular enough to be taken seriously (then I might be able to afford one) ;-) The market for home computers really has stagnated with generic PCs and Apple-branded generic PCs in shiny cases as the only alternatives out there.

Well with 5.1 onboard sound and USB everything (note: no mouse and keyboard ports), unless they are going to make a USB version of a 68k classic Amiga keyboard, running 68k games on this is going to be tricky at best and a royal pain at worst.

My initial reaction is officially "Meh".
