Dammit I spent damn near 2 hours last night trying to play Sim City 2000 on one of my 060 setups via ShapeShifter.

I wouldn't mind but I was playing for hours on the A4000/40 no problem at all but as the city grew in size I needed more speedz

So time to crack open one of the 060's!

Well the Desktop A1200 ran ShapeShifter great, perfect in fact. And Sim City ran perfect! Nice and quick but dammit! I couldn't play properly because for some reason it thought the help key was pressed all the time so anything I clicked on just brought up the help bubble

After an hour trying to figure out what was causing this I checked the 060/PPC which was roasting hot by this time and decided to give er a rest

So went downstairs, fired up the A1200T, loaded up ShapeShifter this time blazingly fast at 72mhz 060 :D

Dammit, a few minutes into the game locked up :( And the game was working fine and everything, I actually remember ShapeShifter being a pain on this system, maybe 72mhz 060 is too fast for it lol? :ninja:

Ok whats left to do now, yep - installed the PC version which ran on my WinXP setup like a dream, but by the time I started my City though it was gone midnight and time to get some sleep

Damn you gotta love Amiga's

Don't you have the Amiga version Steve? Why via emulator (or I understand wrong)?

SimCity 2000 is a great strategy game, I really liked it.

The Mac/PC version are much better than the Amiga, via ShapeShifter you can play at in screen like 800x600 via RTG and also I don't see a WHDLoad version, I guess it was HD installable?

I might make some ADF's and try it though :)

I think that even on an Amiga SimCity 2000 was great-looking, with 256 full colors. Yes, it is HD installable.

Thanks, I shall try it to compare :)

Since ShapeShifter sucks on my A600 I'll be able to get my Sim City Fix that way :D

In fact I can install from the ADF's via my HxC floppy emulator lol

Sorry Steve, Sim City 2000 on Amiga is AGA-only. The only way you'll play it on the A600 is when Oliver or someone makes a Shapeshifter video driver for the Indivision ECS direct-graphics chunky 256 colour mode.

If you install the AGA version, make sure you grab the patch from Aminet and apply it before you play the game - http://aminet.net/package/game/patch/SimCity2000pch

Thanks for that, I made the disks from ADF's last night so will be installing it on my A4000 later, cheers!

Steve.

Hey Steve, are you running Shapeshifter via native aga on any systems? The reason I ask is that try as I might, I cannot find a single "supposedly fast" aga Shapeshifter driver that is even in the ball park of being usable.

Whats your secret?

On second thought, ever thought of putting together a ShapeShifter tutorial? :)

Cammy already done the tutorial at EAB, I'll see if I can find a link in a bit.

Not really used ShapeShifter on my non RTG systems to be honest, Cammy might be able to help though.

All the best.

Steve.

i read a post by Cammy saying that the patched AGA version runs at the same speed as the shapeshifter version:D
