A question about A3640 und Amiga 3000 with ROM 1.4

Hello,

a question to the experts: what happen on power on to this hardware (A3000D with ROM 1.4 and A3640 rev.2)?
Black screen and nothing more, or? And the power LED stay low or become brightness?

I have here a faulty A3640 rev.0, that give green screen on a A4000D. I have made some measurements with the oscilloscope, then i have upgraded it to rev 3.2 with a new GAL 22v10-5. Then, i have attached it to my A3000D, with the correct jumper setup: it give black screen, but there is activity on the bus (data and address), and, on power on, for a fraction of second, the power LED become brightness.

I have forgotten: my A3000D has DMAC-2 and Ramsey-7.

i understand that my question can be stupid (= missing of knowledge). Just to have a reply from somehow has tried to run a working A3640 rev2 in a A3000D with 1.4 ROM.

As BlindGerMan says above, the A3640 won't work with Kickstart 1.4. KS1.4 loads the software kickstart image (1.3 or 2.0) into RAM and uses the hardware MMU of the 68030 to map it. There are differences (incompatibilities) between the way the MMU works on the '030 and the '040 which means that Kickstart 1.4 doesn't work on the latter CPU. (At least, that's what I'm told!)

If I were you, I'd just get a set of 3.1 ROMs for your A3000. My 3K runs great with an A3640 on KS3.1

many thanks! At the moment i do not need a set of 3.1 ROM: this card is not mine and i will ship it to the owner, sure that it work. It was a non working rev.0 card that i have upgraded to rev.2. During the upgrade process, i have found that the old GAL was defective: the upgrade of the old part was not possible, because some locations inside the IC was not able to be programmed. I have placed also a new programmed GAL.
