You´ll get the info you need on Retr0Brite here, I know it´s really spelled Retr0 Bright - but I find "brite" to be a more catchy word :)

Now, I don´t have everything I need yet. But I´m starting this thread to keep you up to date with my progress :)

All these pics are of course the "before pictures".

Re: A Retr0 Brite future

This is the UV bulb I´ve bought. It´s called "UV Black" - this makes me a bit worried that it´s the wrong kind, should I be worried? :)

Perfect. But you need to remove the residue of that sticker before starting the treatment.

I suggest iso alcohol at first. If no avail, try with acetone.

Caution: it can "eat" the surface of the plastic!

@arnljot

I'm looking forward to this my friend, but as my good friend rkauer states, the best results will come from your carefull preparation.

This is the stuff I use. And I washed it with a spounge.

Also, the tanlines worry me. I'm anxious to see if they also go away... I guess I shouldn't apply the gel to the already bright plastic.

@arnljot

Excellent removal my friend, it's ready.

Now don't forget to remove the keylock, :wink:
It may also be better to treat the 2nd floppy face plate separately too. but for the same length of time with the same mixture.

This should be a good result... 8)

TC :mrgreen:

edit... I'm sure Merlin will be able to offer advice regarding the tanlines & whiter area. :wink:

Re: A Retr0 Brite future

DON'T use acetone!! It will denature and attack the surface of the plastic. If you have a dishwasher, put the case in on a cool cycle to remove dirt and prepare the case, it makes a difference.. Isopropanol is fine though.

The tan lines should get removed; if Retr0brite can remove mahogany coloured staining from my C64, tanlines are not a problem; just check on the case every two hours or so and wash the gel off parts that look completed.

Re: A Retr0 Brite future

@Merlin: acetone is used only for removing of that dried glue. I know it atack plastics (ABS in a bad way).

Old "cure" for yellowing was rip (tear) the yellowed surface with it. :shock: Very bad for "satin" plastic surfaces as Amiga have.

Finnaly I have the last ingredient.

Unfortunately my motivation for retro gear is at an all time low, but when I get back on the horse - this is what I'll get around to do. :shrug:

LOL

That put a smile on my face. This weekend my gf goes to Nice to sunbathe and drink wine. Perhaps I'll pop open the 1.5L chablis I have here, have some shrimp and see what I can do about the machines that needs assembly here.

Re: A Retr0 Brite future

I'm about ready to begin:

1) Outside in 16 degrees Celsius in the sun or In the basement under my energy saving UV bulb?

2) How long, in the sun or in the basement?

3) Labels, remove them or simply not put any gel on them?

I'll be cleaning the front panels in an hour. Should the gel be stored cooly? In the dark for sure, but how about temperature? Room or in the fridge?
