I have an Amiga 2000 with compact flash card for a hard drive, and I’m trying to use the 2000’s HDD LED to show hard drive activity.

I have soldered the 2000's red HDD LED wire to pin 39 on the CF adapter (the activity line) and all I got was a very dim constant HDD LED light. On the CF adapter, the hdd activity light was constantly lit. The CF HDD drive worked fine reading and writing as normal.

(I tried connecting black to both ground on the CF adapter, and the Amiga chassis, with same result).

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi.
I do not know much about electronics, but from what I've read, I think you have to insert a resistance (330 ohm approx), so it is not always on, and only shine when a voltage is exceeded.
You can look for the solution in this way.

I have it working.

My mistake was connecting positive side of the LED (red wire) to the CF HDD adapter on pin 39, and connecting black wire to ground (chassis). This does not work.

The correct way is to connect positive side of the LED (red wire) to a 5v positive + power source, BUT put a 330 ohm resister on the red wire somewhere. Then, the black wire of the LED goes to the CF adapter on pin 39. This worked 100%

+5V --- 330 Ohm resistor --- +side (LED) -side --- pin 39 IDE

Easy!
