Hello,

I hope this is not a duplicate to another thread. I looked but could not find the answer.

I am piecing together an A600 and have everything but the keyboard. I have located a German keyboard, but I need a US keyboard.

So I have two questions:

1. Is the keyboard layout completely determined by the OS?

2. If yes to one, are other keys from other keyboards (500/1200) usable on the A600 so I can swap out the keys and get the correct US symbols?

Thanks for your help!!!

1- Yes. Just try an AZERTY (french keyboard) on an UK/USA machine and you'll notice the Q & A keys are not in the labelled position. Just swap the keycaps over to have what you need/want;

2-Pending the A600 membrane colour, yes. Most A600 units have a green membrane keyboard made by Mitsumi. Those are 100% the same as all the A1200 and Mitsumi A500 units (A500 had, at least, three keyboard manufacturers).

Remember the A500 keycaps are beige instead of the white the A600, A1200 and A4000 have.

If the A600 have a blue membrane, then no. Blue membrane A600 units doesn't share the keycaps with any other Amiga model.

Pretty much what rkauer said in case it's a Mitsumi, just beware of the two different Mitsumi designs (photo).
Keys from big box Amiga keyboards are typically like the leftmost design (lighter colours) and have a single square shape for the sleeve + stem.
Keys from other Amigas are typically like the rightmost design (darker colours) with half of the sleeve/stem in round form and the other half in square.
So in short your best bet is an A1200 keyboard.
