I did that hack a long ago using a surplus SIMM and some wire from a IDE cable plus a desoldered PCI slot.
It worked, but the soldering was very fragile and no way to secure the SIMM into the PCI slot. So I put the whole thing in the bin and never looked back at it.
But if you have a few doubts, don't hesitate do post here again.
Just don't use any SIMM with 2, 8 or 32Mb, they will not work. Preferably grab a 1Mb unit (4Mb SIMM non-EDO might work), but those are now rare pesky units. Simply because people didn't want those at that era and simply tossed away all of them.
