AAA Prototype was on display at PlayExpo 2012!

Yes the guy who owns one of the only three AAA prototype boards - apparently one is unaccounted for - had it on display at today's Expo (along with a CDTV developer model which he informed me only 5 were made).

Anyway I thought this might be of some interest to the members here so have made a separate thread for it. I'm not sure if a script will resize the photos of these but if anyone wants my fullsize versions (2816x2112) then just say so and I will upload them somewhere else.

He told me it was not working but is slowly making progress finding the needed parts to hopefully one day make it functional. In the meantime here is the direction the next Amiga by Commodore would have taken most likely. This board was huge I doubt it would have ended up that big had it went into production as it made the A2000 mainboard look small by comparison.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing I had one I've read all of the documents Dave Haynie put online about the AAA chipset. IMHO It had the potential to revive the Amiga line and bring it back to the fore.

Dave Haynie is a god. Not that he was the only engineer working on this but he's probably been the most vocal over the years and I love his design work.

If he can finish it with the help of Dave then we would likely have a working prototype.
If it works, I hope it becomes open source and we all can start building one and write software for it.

I still would like to see some sort of Workbench 4 or 5 (no, not Amiga OS4.1) :-D

This was the first functional AAA board, and also the first to die. The death was in part purely accidental, and in part a bit of negligence. First to blame is me. Back in those days, you needed +12V for Flash memory, so I had this going to the Flash SIMM modules. Sadly, rather than protect the +12V signal with grounds on either side, or some-such, I pretty much ignored the signal neighbors. This is not the best decision, since a +12V shorted to a normal TTL-level input can destory that input.

...aren't the AAA custom chips missing from this too? Sure I read somewhere the only people who have these custom chips (Andrea/Mary/Linda/Monica) are those who developed/programmed them?

Where are the other two I wonder?

Yep, these are missing on all 3, one got sold on ebay, I don't know who, the 3rd is a mistery also.

It was fantastic that Oli-hd brought this major piece of history and his A1000 to the event and we craftily sneaked this display onto the end of the retro machines table, where there was a space available and when no-one from Play Expo was looking. :shhh:

It was great seeing oli-hd at Play Expo along with the AAA board and his other goodies (he also has a CDTV-CR)
I'd love to see this board fully working, but feel that oli-hd has a lot of work to get it to that stage.

I know I said I hadnt seen it, but.. I was looking through my pics on my phone.. and in the background of the A1000 pics I took, it sat there.

No probs guys, always happy to bring the prototypes out! no point in me just keeping them in a box at home.
Re: next time you want to see it working.... hmmmm challenge accepted!!

By the way guys, the CDTV CR was there also I should have made signs to explain what they were.

Oh and by the way, my Amiga Nyx is the one off eBay so where the rest of the ones on the Death Bed videos are is any ones guess.
Anyway glad you lot liked seeing it and OMG loved the show!

And sorry to everyone who turned up Sunday, We drove up to Manchester and had to drive back... was hoping to get back Sunday but realised it wasnt going to happen when we were trying to plan it late Saturday. Next time a hotel!
