Ive been trying to make my CDTV into a WHDload machine for ages.

Over time I managed to get bits and pieces to try and get a complete set and the parts required. My plan was eventually to have only the CDTV as my only Amiga....

Ive had trouble trying to get a rom switcher to work or have tried different roms, etc so that the CD drive, floppy and everything works with a modern version of kickstart. Today Ive been switching ROMS back and forth trying to see which combination works best.

Whilst doing this, Im thinking what a well made and resilient little beast this bad boy is and now the F**ker doesnt work.:censored:. It happened after I tried a 3.1/1.3 rom in one with switcher then took it out and tried a normal 2.05 ROM.

When I plug in the my power cable, the fans start straight away when previously all I got was the time on the LCD display on the front. The fan came on only when I switched it on.

The LCD display shows nothing and nothing happens except for the fan spinning.

Ages ago I read somewhere that someone had a similiar problem and he just replaced something and everything was hunky dory.

Please someone tell me I have just got to replace a small thing and all will be fixed.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I forgot to say. I heard some strange noises from the PSU before the CDTV died?

Amigas can be resilient, PSUs tend to go south with age. That is why the PSU is always replaceable. Yours may have dropped below enough voltage to just power the fan. It too could have caused damage on its demise -- " collateral damage."

So do you think it may have damaged other parts such as chips on the motherboard etc?

Me? No. I've never had an Amiga go bad like that, but I hear rumors of such. There are folks who blame everything on capacitors. Two rules: always turn the power off and check your work with a multimeter before turning it back on. From what you say, the MB is fine; the PSU, grab your multimeter. Better yet try another.

99% sure you've just blown the fuse. The CDTV has two fuses and if you blow one the CDTV's fan will spin but nothing else happens. Open the CDTV up, find the power suply (grey box) and unscrew it (Two screws on the top), and check the fuses.. easy :-D

Kickstart wise, the CDTV "out of the box" can only take a KS1.3 ROM. To use KS2.05 or KS3.1 you need to update the PROMs

Thanks for replying.

Do they look like normal fuses? i.e the ones that plug into my main plug?

I have a EPROM set (2.30) but still have problems using the CD when using kickstart 2.05 37.300? - any ideas?
