Hi All,

I am in the process of restoring an A1200 and have everything sorted now except one small problem - The IDE is VERY slow.

Like, 5KB/s Slow. (as measured by sysinfo)

If anyone has any pointers of anywhere I can check it would be greatly appreciated.

System is stable, and works with various accellerators etc, all RAM passes tests, CIAs, Paula, ETC.

Have tried replacement CIAs, but this didnt solve anything.

Passes every test in Diagrom, ATK, VATest.

It has been suggested that the IDE interrupt could be at fault, but the IDE interrupt passes in DIAGROM when doing the gayle test.

any advice appreciated.

Edit: Have tried Buffered/Non buffered IDE adaptors, cables, DOMs, multiple CF-IDE adapters and even a real 2.5" HDD.

Edit 2: Have replaced IDE Connector and checked traces, all appear OK

Thankyou.

As Gayle handles all the data signals from the IDE I suspect it could be Gayle, had a guy with IDE not working and I told him to check for the DSO signal which just checks to see if a HD is present and it was not so he replaced the Gayle and it fixed his problem,

IDE Is detected, have even done a complete install of OS3.2, but its just sloooowwwww. Whilst I do agree that gayle could be at fault, I'd expect it to bug out completely, not just work super slowly.

Amiga`s are funny beasts I have known Chips to partly fail

Totally agree as the Gayle is a expensive chip !, but you could check all the IDE Data lines to the Gayle, painful I know

I've already desoldered the connector, checked all connections, soldered back in a brand new connector, checked again. i've also reflowed every connection to gayle, checked interrupt lines going back to paula, etc. everything else on the machine is 100% now just not the damn IDE....
