I recently acquired an ECS Denise 8373 chip for my Amiga 2000hd Rev 6.2. The A2000hd has a Fatter Angus 8372a 1 MB installed. It has 1 MB of chip mem.
After installing the ECS Denise the computer recognizes the ECS Denise. I can use the Super Hires video mode. My issue is when the Super Denise is installed I have horrible vertical lines on the Workbench and games. The second issue is the mouse cursor jumps around when moving the mouse. It doesnt matter what video mode ntsc or pal, low res, high res, or super hires is used or if I boot to only use OCS mode. The lines and jumpy mouse remain. When I uninstall and reinstall STD Denise my screen and mouse are normal and doesnt display those issues. My AmigaOS is 3.2.1. I dont believe the motherboard has been modified.
Does anyone have any insight on my issue or have experienced the same while upgrading from OCS to ECS?

Thanks for reading

I'd start with trying to nail down the culprit, starting with booting without a startup sequence to rule out a software issue. If the mouse seems ok in the CLI that pops up, load Workbench using LoadWB and see if the icons still look bad. If you still have issues, remove the RAM expansions (bigram and supra) and retest. Also try using an earlier version of Workbench if you have access to it.

Comraider,
Thanks for the suggestions. I removed all expansions except the A2091 scsi2sdv6 as i do not have workbench floppies. I had a lightpen attached prior. After removing the lightpen the mouse seemed to function properly with Super Denise (worked flawlessly with STD Denise). However the vertical lines on screen remained. I downgraded my kickrom from 3.2 to 3.0 and downgraded the os to 3.1.4. No change. I changed J300 from 1-2 to 2-3 position to see if changing Line to VSYNC would do anything, no change. I suspect there is a hardware issue at play. Either 1) 1MB chipmem is not enough, 2) This Super Denise doesnt like my motherboard. or 3) The Super Denise is defective. It was shipped from europe so no telling if heat or EMF got to it during shipping. I'll tinker with it for a short while longer but will replace it with the STD Denise relatively soon. Bummer

Having 1 MB chip RAM is totally fine. Have you tried booting with no startup-sequence to see if the graphical glitches are still there?

Wait.. I don't know too much about the A2091 but does it do DMA? You might have a problem with the memory mask settings in HDToolBox for your "hard drive" (SCSI2SD).

Yes I forgot to mention, when booting with no startup-sequence it inquires about missing ENV and LOCALE. I assign manually. The vertical lines appear on the title bar of the console as well. The workbench does not load and stays on the console unless i enter reboot and the process loops. I'll probably create a fresh basic install as I have an hstwb-installer image. The A2091 does not do DMA. The memory is set to 0 as its empty. If i wasnt upgrading to ECS the system works flawlessly. Its been awhile since I've used HDToolbox not since attempting to create a new partition when working with a 64gb sd card. I had difficulty with it and went with a pre-done 8gb image and didnt bother with HDToolbox. Somewhere I read HDInstTools is better for <4GB drives but I havent dabbled with that much. Thanks for the additional help.

I have decided to downgrade back to the STD Denise. My 20 years of IT experience tells me its a corrupted chip. It wasn't just mouse and vertical lines. The overall display is cringe with bad color as well after reverting back to OCS as a comparison. If I get a wild hair I may purchase a denise adapter socket and obtain a Denise meant for an a600. Until then Im going to enjoy what I have. Thanks Comraider for the help.

You're not missing too much with the OCS Denise tbh. :) I know at least half of the fun is tinkering and building out the system, but don't forget to just enjoy it!

some users are thinking ECS DENISE is more advanced and gives You a higher resolution, well, that's partially true, there is higher resolution but with less colours, so it's rather disadvantage not something better than OCS can do, and it isn't worth in my opinion...
since ECS DENISE will be sold for a crazy amount of money I recommend You to get an Indivision instead, or wait for cheapass solution from PiStorm guys based on TangNano9k

No release date was mentioned yet, so no one knows when it be released, bought me 2x TangNanos though, before these are getting too expensive..?

DJCook, Ive considered Indivision prior to the ECS Denise purchase. I have pre-ordered an Mnt ZZ9000. The ECS was to pass-thru into the ZZ9000. That being said i think some of the functionality of the Indivision would be redundant regarding the ZZ9000. Truth be known, if there was a way to add AGA to an A2000 without a Vampire I'd do that vs ECS.

I ordered a second ECS Denise from a different source. It works great without issue. Its obvious to me that the first chip got corrupted somehow during overseas shipping.
