I decided to overclock my amiga 3000, which turned out to be pretty easy with a little soldering skill. I replaced the original oscillator with one at 50mhz and also socketed it, in case I have to reverse it. I got the jumper settings from jltursan at the amiga.org forum ( https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=71283.msg812306#msg812306 )

I put a 40mm fan in the open space between the daughter board and the front of the case. I got the idea from a Chris Edwards restoration video, it brings in some fresh air to the cpu side of the case. I replaced the case fan with a noctua , and the hard drive with a zuluscsi rp 2040. Now my amiga is virtually silent, and nothing but cool air blows out the back.

Originally I was going to get a friend to swap out the cpu for a legit 25mhz, but since he would be doing all the painstaking work, I decided to try the overclock first.

Lovely. It can't be any faster than 25mhz because of some bus related issue, right?

I find it interesting that as far as 68030 goes on the 3000 and 4000 25mhz is it. There was one card that was made that went 50mhz, but it doesn't seem like the idea on these was to run a 68030, which is a shame. I'm sure many users would enjoy a 50mhz 68030 on these machines just fine.

From what I've read 25mhz is the sweet spot, anything over that on the motherboard will create instability. Supposedly 16mhz has comparability issues with certain components, this is why I overclocked. Apparently through a combination of magic and science cpus can run at faster speeds on accelerator cards. I was holding out for a pistorm upgrade for my 3000, but I may just get a 68060@50mhz accelerator if nothing appears.
