Selling my Amiga 3000D.

This lovely computer had been working fine for years but has recently developed a fault. I turned it on for the first time in a few years and it was working fine for a hour or so but then I noticed a faint burning smell. I turned off the machine and since then there is a graphical problem and a problem with the mouse. When I move the mouse cursor horizontally the cursor is limited to a vertical area of the screen - when it reaches a certain point it wraps around. This means the cursor can't be moved to all locations on the screen. Also, at certain positions on the screen the cursor is yellow and there are stripes that can appear at the top of the screen. See photos for an example of the glitch that appears (photo is of Early Bootup Screen). Apart from this fault everything else seems to work fine : PSU, 31Khz video output, Audio (both channels), mouse/joystick ports, keyboard port.

I don't have the motivation to get this fixed up so I haven't done any diagnosis of the problem. It could be something as simple as the socketed chips need reseating. But then again it could be something more serious - either way the machine is sold "as is". If you have an idea what the problem could be and would like me to try some simple tests I am prepared to spend a _little_ time trying to get more information if that helps (like testing temperature of certain chips etc). Bear in mind I don't have access to the side of the motherboard underneath the PSU as I don't really want to take it apart.

What you get:

  • Amiga 3000D desktop
  • Tandem IDE Controller card (boxed)
  • 1 x SCSI HDD
  • 1 x IDE HDD
  • Floppy drive (untested)
  • Amiga 3000 keyboard (with hard plastic transparent cover)
  • Amiga 3000 2 button mouse (not pictured)
  • No physical software included

Board revision is Revision 9:
Motherboard says
"Commodore B2
FAB 313332 Rev 9/02
P/N 313313 Rev 9/02"

The HDD has OS3.5 installed but will probably need wiping as it was setup with Picasso96 software.

THE GRAPHICS CARD AND NETWORK CARD IN THE PICTURES ARE NOT INCLUDED. THESE WERE ALREADY SOLD SEPARATELY.

Notes on the condition:

  • General cosmetic condition is good but there are obvious signs of wear and tear.
  • Some signs of yellowing on front plastic of case and on the keyboard.
  • Battery has been removed and no signs of leakage can be seen.
  • 15Khz connector looks a bit misshapen. It's never been used.
  • There is a small scratch through the Amiga logo on the case.
  • Some scratches on the top case. One small area at the back has some paint removed.
  • HDD & POWER LEDs look like they have snapped off at the end.
  • Front of the case looks like it has been fixed with some epoxy resin glue. This can't be noticed from the front as it was glued from inside the case. It feels like a good fix and has not caused any problems but when looked at from above it is noticeable that there is a slight gap on one side between the front plastic and the metal case.
  • Not tested all ports - SCSI, SERIAL, PARALLEL, 15KHZ Video.

More details:

  • ROM revision is unknown. I haven't upgraded it.
  • Daughter board says BD Rev5 (S/N 01764)
  • Quantum Fireball SCSI HDD - Unknown capacity (Label on case says HARD DISK QUANTUM P 105 S)
  • Seagate 10GB IDE HDD (U Series 5 HDD ST310211A)
  • Serial number on rear of A3000D case says 07380

Let me know if you want any more details and I will see if I can provide them. Unfortunately I can't run sysinfo or any other software as the machine won't boot up any more. I think this is because the OS install is looking for a Picasso IV gfx card which used to be installed.

Hoping for £300 or best offer.
