Hello,

I recently got a 2.x ROM for my Amiga 500 from the UK, and it won't work in my USA/NTSC Amiga 500 (Rev 5 motherboard).

Does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks,

Neofree

The ROM itself will work fine. The problem is the revision 5 itself.

You have to lift a pin from the ROM chip and do a little solder job to make it work. The very same must be done to make a 3.1 ROM to work.

Lemme check the correct hack on teh interwebz. I'll be back in a few minutes.

[EDIT] Here is the correct procedure (valid for both 2.xx & 3.1 ROM chips):
Solder a thin wire to pin 1 of the ROM IC. Leave the other end of this wire free.
Solder a thin wire from pin 21 of the ROM IC to pin 31 of the ROM IC.
Bend up pin 31 of the ROM IC so that pin will not go into the ROM socket.
Insert the ROM IC into the socket, taking care that pin 31 of the IC touches *no* other pin or wire.
Insert the free end of the wire from pin 1 into the socket at location 31, taking care that
the wire does not touch any pin on the IC or any other possible connection.
Check for bent pins, test the computer before re-assembling.

Oh, BTW: there is NO SUCH THING AS NTSC ROM!

OK this makes sense now. I thought that was only for 3.x.

I actually got a 3.x ROM that had the mod pre-done on a socket... Only problem was it's too tall with the HD/RAM board I have. So I thought getting a 2.x would solve it.

But now that I have to do it anyway, I've already started re-modding the 3.1 to not use the socket and will be all set.

Thanks!!
