For sale are two pieces of my automatic df0: - df1: switcher. Designed and tested with the A500 in mind but it can probably fit just fine in a B2000 (US models) as well. Don't really know about A2000 (German model) or A1000 (the instructions would have to be different anyway as there's no Gary chip there).

Price is EUR 50.00 per unit and includes registered shipping in the EU and most other areas of the world.

1 switcher sold to grue_r_t - mutual feedback left
1 switcher sold to gede - mutual feedback left

Operation
----------
Once installed, switching decision is made upon releasing CTRL + A + A after a keyboard reset.
If at that time left mouse (or fire) button is pressed, df0: and df1: functionality is swapped ( i.e. first external drive behaves as df0: and the internal drive behaves as df1: ).
If not, no swap happens and all is as usual.
If button is pressed during power-on, swap occurs (since during power-on the keyboard resets the A500) so powering-up directly into a swapped state is possible.
It is of course not possible to switch without a keyboard reset.

Installation
-----------
Even CIA-(B) is removed and the switcher board is plugged in its socket. The CIA chip is replaced on the socket found on the switcher, notch still on the same side. Four wires are clipped via hook probes to various pins:
-Blue probe: Gary pin #5
-Green probe: Odd CIA (A) pin #8 for left mouse button switching, pin #9 for fire button switching
-Red probe: Gary pin #46
-Black probe: Odd CIA (A) pin #7
Red and black probes should not be connected in the rare occasion the internal drive is a high density Amiga drive (Chinon FB-357A or equivalent)

Notes
------
- Tested on a rev6A motherboard. Rev3 and rev5 boards provide less clearance between Even CIA (B) and Gary, so the blue probe must be placed level with the A500 PCB, under the switcher board and at an angle to Gary (see last photo). Upright position won't work there. Rev8A is about the same as 6A so the blue probe can also marginally fit upright.
- The upper metal shielding will definitely not close with any probe in upright position. It will otherwise close, with the floppy cable right between the shielding and the CIA chip.
- The probes can be replaced by soldering the wires either directly on the pins or through intermediate sockets for CIA-A and Gary for a more "permanent" solution.
- In the case of an Amiga 2000 the swap of course concerns the two internal drives.

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but would this work in a 500+ ? Thank you!

Yes, it would :) The A500+ motherboard (rev8A) uses the same kind of CIA chips and sockets as the standard A500. Installation wise, it shouldn't be any different from the rev6A (see first note).

Yay! Thank you.

I'm not sure how to say I want this please... Declare Interest!?

Just to check, is this any good for playing a500 games on a 500+ (I'm cluelessly trying to put a system together as a gift).

If a game refuses for whatever reason to play on an A500+, this switcher won't change anything. Maybe you're after a Kickstart switcher so you can use the 1.3 ROM on an A500+.

This is a disk drive switcher, it's mostly useful for Gotek users who would like to install the Gotek in an external drive case (thus avoiding hacking the A500 case) and still having it operate as true df0: without the need for a manual switch. But, more generally, it does just what its name implies: it swaps the functionality of the internal and external floppy drives, no matter real or Gotek ones.
