I took a gamble on this Amiga not really knowing what I was going to find under the hood and as expected it's suffered the dreaded battery damage. It doesn't look too bad, but it's not working!

I've done the usual clean up using white vinegar and isopropyl and all traces seems fine upon a quick inspection and continuity check. The Amiga is giving a blank screen, solid power led and the occasional flicker from the drive led. There's no floppy drive attached to the machine, just the bare bones other than the keyboard.

I swapped out Gary and before that there were zero drive activity from the drive led, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.

Ideas before I delve deeper?

Not without issues though!!!

Upon closer inspection I found 7 broken traces, those goddam NiMH batteries!

The Amiga now has an intermittent fault where sometimes it will boot and then it won't.

Have you checked the Angus socket?

The one I sold sardine had hidden green gunge on the socket that caused errors at various times

Looks clean, dave. I will inspect it though. (y)

Welp, I think I'm going to shelve this project for now. I already spend the best part of a week and currently don't have more time to throw at it.

I have faith this will fully work again though as I did make some progress, so will be taking a look at this again at some point.

Unfortunately even though I believe the sockets where replaced inc agnus etc. the a500+ is still unstable sometimes booting without issues others to a cycling white/grey screen.

If i had the money and the time a perfect candidate for an a500++ board swop

Update: Fixed, I hope!

Had some free time on Sunday and decided to take another look at the Amiga.

I was almost going to give up on this having already checked all the broken traces several times, then checked using Amiga PCB Explorer for reference.

In a last-ditch effort I removed and re-soldered the patch wires I placed on the top side of the PCB and that seems to have fixed the issues. I guess one of the wires must have had a dodgy joint causing the intermittent problems.

The amiga has been happily running for 24 hours straight, so I think it's safe to say that's a another Amiga back from the dead
