A very interesting project
Can you take more pictures
I was sitting pretty there on the devilish 666 post count, but since it is
YOU who asked Timtheloon, I will...post onward and upward. How could I not? You have shared so much valuable helpful info on your SBC setups, not to mention
(MENTION!) the pages I recently discovered with all your various sweet builds.
...let me commemorate the event before I do go on...ahhh...yes...nice.
I realize my photos are not great so far, but I will remedy this eventually. Here is my custom front opening cover, with the slot-loading dust cleaner transferred to it from the normal CD-ROM drive plastic front cover as well as the modified CDTV eject button. I also painted the edge of the dust foam black to ensure there is no inconsistency in the appearance from the front. This is all held well by this plastic insert in the right spot under various secured points along with the button to trigger the CD open/close. This may seem silly, but it was very important detail to the project, as the original caddy loader, as you well know, has that drop-down-from-inside floppy-type opening cover to cover this large front opening. I couldn't have a giant gap in the fascia after I swapped in the slot loader CD, so this was important for functionality and overall aesthetics. I'm quite pleased with the outcome as externally it looks very clean. We know it was caddy loading, but slot loading very much looks the part now.
It looks very professional. Do the front buttons work?
Yes, the buttons work. And as noted HxC has
(what I feel) is the perfect style display to drop-in place of the CDTV original, so it looks lovely in that spot showing you the name of the floppy you're loading in. I'll still have a 1411 connected here to give this setup a full floppy capability like the original CDTV, as the goal all along is for this to look like a CDTV but...with AGA chipset. It was important to me that the buttons
(all if possible) do something, because there are a few of them. Here the VOLUME buttons UP/DOWN are the selectors of the floppy image
(just copy-wired into the floppy buttons) reset button is select. CD/TV button is nothing now, but it will find a purpose, I'm sure. Maybe It will become the select and RESET will actually be a reset. Can the 1200 MoBo be triggered for a reset by shorting something on the motherboard vs. keyboard so I can make RESET be RESET?
EDIT: TP1 first two pins on the 1200 motherboard are RESET! I guess the CDTV RESET button is going to actually be RESET for the Amiga and CD/TV will be SELECT for the HxC. I'm sure I will NEVER press RESET by accident now, right?
NOW...I have the play/stop/ff/rew buttons available, so I bought a simple MP3 player circuit (this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/385431113223) I'm going to wire copy-wire the button to the fascia play/stop/ff/rew, get a card extension and put access to it from the front opening, next to the HxC, so that both cards can be changed easily from the front. Then I'll just join the audio out into the Amiga RCA outputs that already have the CD audio joining them and from the 1200 RCAs I'll have Amiga, CD-Rom or MP3 audio out in the back. I'll probably copy that out to the front headphone jack too.
I also found someone doing adapters for the CDTV remote for other Amiga, which allows the CDTV remote to work as a mouse on any other Amiga. I know this isn't a great controller, but I'm absolutely going to try to wire one in and put the IR receiver in place of the original so the CDTV remote works. It is crazy that every little thing I can think of already exists out there, just wasn't meant for this use perhaps - UNTIL NOW! My only concern is...can I have two mice connected to a single port, like a Y style connector on the Amiga? I hope so, because I can't have a switcher on this adapter and mouse combo. I already swapped a standard 9-pin mouse guts with a black 9-pin cable into the 1253 mouse, so my CDTV mouse is ready for use with the 1200.
Other than that, this is well on track to become my favorite looking black 1200.
