Hi. I recently won a dataflyer 500 for my amiga 500. When I attach it to my amiga and turn the system on you can hear the drive spin but no icon comes up for it. I have the auto install disc but it doesn't register a drive. Any help as far as what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

one thought comes to mind is that the drive is simply dead and maybe the heads are stuck or worse.just because it spins up doesent mean its working.

or the controller is faulty on the drive or the main board.

if you can get a drive for it try that, its common for a drive to fail.

Will the drive not display an icon if it doesn't work. Because no icon appears on workbench. It also looks like some ram cards are installed but they don't show up either. Is this perhaps because the drive may be dead?. Thanks for the help.

as far as i know a dead drive might not even show in the system let alone an icon in workbench.

but since you have no memory showing as well,it might be that there is something really wrong with the logic on the main board somewhere if the memory doesent show as well, that would be a major failure.
the mainboard might be getting power but nothing is happening, you can have a main board for this fail and still hear the drive spin as its still getting power.

did you buy it as faulty?

The seller had described it as the drive spinning up but not knowing how to test it further.

i dont really know what to say as its not directly in front of me as you can understand.

maybe other users here could give some advise on this as well.

if you could post some pictures of the insides of the device we might be able to spot a defect, but even then there wont be a easy or quick fix for this,if at all.
but, dont let that get you down.

if you took a chance and it was cheap, then its not all bad.
