Hi all,

Having had access to Symantec corporate security for the best part of 15 years and then the McAfee version supplied with BTInternet, I haven't really had to pay for an anti-virus solution for a very long time. I'm no longer with BT and the Corporate solution isn't available to me any more. I'm looking to my learned friends here on Amibay to supply me with recommendations on what's the best Anti Virus solution (which also covers email clients (outlook mainly)) for a home network. Doesn't matter if its free or paid for.

Home network comprises of a bunch of Windows 7 machines, a Windows Server and a few Mac's that will need protecting (although I can probably access something for the Server).

Bring me your thoughts please :)

Cheers

John

im using Eset Smart Security (nod32 is the anti-virus part of it)

Comodo Internet Security is the only free antivirus+HIPS+sandbox+firewall program.

<------ Has been an ESET fanboy for many years - currently on version 5 of ESET System Security.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've installed MSE just now on the main machines with a view to investigating ESET further as at first glance looks to do exactly what I need :)

Cheers

John

All for Avast here, not as bloated as AVG and seems to be one of the fastest responding most comprehensive free anti-virus progs I have ever seen. IMHO.

I have been reading Computer Active and they say Kaspersky is won again for 2 years running !

TOP 5 are

1) Kaspersky
2) Norton (Avoid it due bloatware which is my view as my parent had it and I told them to get rid of it!)
3) ESET
4) MSE( Mircosoft Security Essentials)

For Free Products as I have been told that Avast and Avg performed well!

Nod32 has been my favorite for 6 years or so. Lightweight and unobtrusive.

Eset Smart Security every time.

or free: I would say Avast. I put it on 300 PCs a month!

Everyone slags norton off, must be cause they just go for what they are told.
Plain simple NAV (without all the stupid other apps is all you need), 10+ years and counting of virus free computing.
Main thing for anti virus is common sense, dont install crap you dont need, triple check every installer for sly hidden apps.

I've always been a fan of Avast myself, never had a problem with it myself and indeed I've set up 100s of customers computers with it and had no hassle.

Of course, the one thing you can't install for people is common sense. That's just as important as decent AV software.

Using Kaspersky for many years. I have never had one problem with any virus since using it.

AVG Pro user here. Haven't really noticed any bloat and it runs faster on my home machine than the bloated McCrapee does on my more powerful work machine.
