I just bought a 1240 from blankstare and he had the following to say about the 68040 running at 40mhz!

I never used a cooling fan, just the heatsink which does get warm. If you wish to play safe then fit a fan - it can't do any harm

Now, I got the card and installed it, run aibb on it, and promptly locked up in the middle of the tests.

Put my finger on the heatsink and nearly burned myself.

So I ran down to the office and grabbed a dead video card.

This is what I've thrown together.

The fan is from a 7300gs card, with the shroud made from a kingston ram container plus double sided foam tape.

I've been running aibb for the last hour and the heat sink is barely warm.

Wish me luck!

New version.

Had more time to want to get the fan right and not just test the card.
I've gone with a slightly smaller fan running at 7 volts instead of the original one at 12v. I can't even hear this one unless I put my ear to the vent holes on the top of the case. The keyboard has plenty of clearance, and I can install and remove the accelerator thru the trapdoor again.
Much nicer than the first, and still a hack using double sided foam tape, electrical tape, kingston memory dimm cases, and the fan from a R550 video card.

It looks like it's modelled on a High end graphics card solution. Where the Fan intakes & forces air over the Heat sink.

Tbh, it's one of the neatest hacks I've seen yet. (y)

Where are the pics? I need to upgrade the fan on my Apollo 1240 as it overheats.

I think due to the age of this thread, the pictures have probably been deleted sadly :( especially if they were hosted on a third party website
