Apollo 1240 rework - DEAD battery slow death

I have an Apollo that requires serious attention.

The batter has leaked and started to eat away the PCB around the jumpers / rom / various Ics and of course the battery too.

the card is as dead as a door nail but we will see….

Mine went this way, was working after original repair but eventually died fully, not even Stan could fix it

I've got jumper leads all over it now but it heats the ram up very hot but doesn't boot …. i may look again tomorrow :-(

Check if there is a short circuit in one electrolitic capacitor. I had one with one of those 74fct16543 burned. Replaced them all and also replaced all 74f257, they get burned as well. If you are trying with a 040, you need 74f74 fully working or it will not give clock to the ram and cpu.

You could bring it back from the dead. But you'll have to replace some components and clean the legs on that big IC and clean the rest of the board around the where the battery was...
