While I eventually would like to upgrade one of my A1200s from a 030 to a 040, this is a bit pricy, more so given the limited amount of RAM. Too bad, I have to skip this.

A VL2020 is good - needs a little care to mount it properly but works perfectly. :)

No! You destroy the VL2020 Cell, because the 2020 is a 3 Volt Cell, and the Apollo Card will load the Cell with 3,8 Volt. Read carefully the Datasheet before you post dangerous Information.....

Then my apologies to all, I believed it was suitable :( I'll go check the specs. Can someone suggest a replacement instead?

(edit: FWIW I initially took my information from a thread on Amiga.org entitled 'Apollo 1240 battery & fan questions' where stachu had done a similar thing. I'm sure the voltage could be reduced if this were a problem)

(final edit: :) The VL2020 is suitable... but Rick is right, anyone looking to use one as a replacement battery must limit the voltage to it to prevent charging damage. Adding a 3.3V zener diode in parallel to the VL2020 (and swapping one of the two diodes in the board's charging circuit for a 330-ohm resistor) solves the problem! :) Hope this helps other 1240 owners, and good luck with the new battery Flynnsarcade!)
