My son's birthday is next week!

He wants a PSP Vita. So off I trundle looking for a good bundle deal. I find one at Argos with the game Call of Duty declassified, travel kit and memory card. There is also supposed to be a Vodafone Pay as you go Sim in this lot!

But there was not, also the console box itself was un-sealed and the PSP is not the 3G version! This has wee'd me off big time!

Basically I will be chasing these boogers tomorrow as I am not happy at all!

Now am I just dumb and this is no 3G version? I mean why detail the thing with a sim card included but stick in the wifi only version?

Arrghhh time to go relax with a drink and stop ranting lol.

That's Argos to a tee, handing out used goods for new prices... (I bought a tent once and got it home to find it full of mud from someone treating Argos like a rental service for their weekend camping trip...)

There is a 3G version, but as far as I know it was discontinued a little while ago, before the Slim version (which doesn't have a 3G model) launched in Japan. That said, I'm pretty sure there's still ample stock of them in the UK.

For BEEEPS sake so your saying what I already assumed! This is a customer return job (possibly?)

Anyone know there is meant to be some kind of sticky protective film on these things? I am really unsure they do... but the psp is spotless?

I am quite angry now about this! I logged into Argos and there is not evidence of me placing the order? All I have is everything I saved out when doing the order, web page with all the product details, online confirmation reciepts etc.

Shouldve gone elsewhere tbh! Missus is out working at the moment! She will nuke lol.

They usually exclude electronics, games, and suchlike from customer returns, but even so I had the same thing happen to me with a laptop a few years ago. So, there is the possibility, unfortunately...

My Vita (Slim) came from Japan, so I can't comment on the UK packaging, but if I remember right, mine had a sealed box and the console came in one of those weird foamy slip-on protective bags (with no film on the machine itself that I can remember).

I don't blame you for being angry - if you've gotten a returned item, in a category where Argos' policy is not to allow returns, that's extremely poor...

If you're going to look elsewhere once it's resolved, I'd imagine you might get better service from Amazon, GAME, or Shopto.

This is a poo cake!

I do honestly think we have been kinda rooked here.

The other items are un-sealed, only the psp box was opened.

So no returns hey! Right I will not let this lay down. I did do one thing regarding payment for this. Basically for speedyness and the fact we needed to get things sorted I paid using paypal as it was an option.

Thinking if they try rooking me, anychance I can get paypal to stick their oar in?

Massive :double here at the moment! ToysRUs are selling this 3G version with a kiddy game for £168 odd.. deyam and blast it lol!

If a polite message to customer service fails, I'm pretty sure that PayPal should cover you if an item is not as described (which, personally, I would consider to be the case if a used item has been received but you were sold a new one). I've never used Argos' online service, myself (just the reservation one), so I can't really comment further on that...

But there was not, also the console box itself was un-sealed and the PSP is not the 3G version! This has wee'd me off big time!

a bit of a bummer to get the wifi when expecting the 3g, but I have yet to see anyone say they actually use the 3g part at all. Beside buying stuff and syncing stuff - i haven't used the wifi to a big extent either. I bought a wifi just because it was cheap and i didn't value 3g at all.

Yup, there's really no point to the 3G in the Vita at all. The social stuff you already have in your phone and you can't play online on it.

But the issue of unsealed.. that grates alot!!!

Of course, but do remember the Distance Selling Regulations, that leaves you with a 7 day cancellation period from the day you received the item. :)

A calm attitude will get you what you want. Just explain your issues to the Argos staff. They're not paid very much you know, and being able to support a family or run a house is most likely an impossible dream for them.

I'm all for you getting the item as described, but to succumb to anger would cross the line.

I bought one of the 3G vitas for my sister about 3 weeks ago.

They don't come with any protective cover of the console or screen but are shipped in a white foam type bag inside the sealed box. If the box wasn't sealed upon receipt then of course i wouldn't consider that to be new but the problem you face if convincing Argos that it wasn't sealed.

Their online ordering system is a lot of Sh*te to be honest, no tracking and impossible to find previous orders.

My biggest issue with them was when i ordered my PS4. Order early on a Monday morning and chose next day delivery meaning i'd be able to play on Tuesday. I paid by paypal and the payment was awaiting acceptance. They didn't accept it till Tuesday then didn't ship it till Friday and sent it standard which took 2 days to arrive... had to spend about an hour on the phone arguing the case till eventually they partially refunded me for the shipping.

Personally, id return it, demand a refund and then whip in Asda, get the 3G version (as its cheaper than Wifi there) with the 10 games Sports pack and 16GB Memory card, for £130.

I think that's the best deal, certainly was when I was looking and that's where I got mine.

It isn't advertised at all though, so you need to go in and have a look.

I got mine in Game ever Christmas. I got the 3G Vita, and the 10 game Mega bundle (not sport) with 16GB card together for around £139. It's confusing in the stores on what the prices are so just ask.

Regarding returns. You have a 28 day no questions return on any electrical item AFAIK. The goods are not as described because you purchased a 3G version, but your one was a WiFi only version when you opened it. We returned 2 laptops to PC World/Currys last year because the cases were lose on one and the screen failed on the other. We had used them as a main PC for that whole month, and got a full refund.

Regarding the 3G Vodafone sim. The box should of had a sticker advertising the fact and the sim is in its own Vodafone envelope the same as when you buy a mobile.

Got this sorted out!

Basically they admitted everything, they advertised wrongly etc. They have even revised the details now. Price has not dropped mind? bit naughty lol.

Time is ticking on so, his birthday this wednesday. I cannot mess around anymore and they offered us £40.00 back which I was happy to do.

The console looks ok, it works. I do like to moan about something if its supposed to be mint and new. You dont get anywhere if you do not bother and try.

This panned out with:

Vita console
Call of Duty declassified
16gb memory with game pack
Travel kit.

We are happy, he will be happy. Ok it does not have 3G but its a vita and that is what he wanted at the end of the day!

Also bought him Titanfall. Should be a good day if nothing else goes wrong lol.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

A nice final outcome for sure.

You really don't need the 3G feature on the Vita. You can't play multiplayer via it (only WiFi) and if I ever really need to access the PSN network or trophies out and about I can just connect via my smartphone (set to a wifi hotspot and using it's 3G).

A 16GB card will sound a lot of space initially, but download all the games included in the bundle and it will be nearly full. I have to keep deleting games to play new ones with mine at the moment. Planning on eventually buying a larger memory card, but will also be looking at discounts on retail games so those don't need to be stored on the memory card.

If you look to buy any more games for it I hoghly recommend:

Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Tearaway
Gravity Rush
Wipeout 2048
Ratchet and Clank
LittleBigPlanet Vita
Super Stardust Delta
Spelunky
TxK

And one that would probably be more for you than your son is "Flower". Originally on the PS3, is is an amazing interactive game/demo.. it looks and feels like a demoscene demo but is really relaxing and nice to play.

Ohh Super Stardust Delta sounds good :D

Thanks for the list! I shall use that later on. I was thinking a bigger card later on, maybe he can get one with birthday money. A 32gb or bigger would be good!

A 32gb or bigger would be good!
I wish you good luck trying to find one of those! When I was looking for a bigger memory card, my finding from a few retailers was that the 32GB ones are now discontinued - they became impossible to get hold of in the UK around October or November.

Amazon claims to be able to get them, but I had an order with them for months and they never got them in again, and couldn't provide any information on whether they ever would.

I ended up importing a 64GB one, in the end...
