Old Asus EEE PCs for sale.

Still Available
£15 + P&P + fees[ (was £20)
EEE 701 - 4GB SSD and 1GB RAM (upgraded from 512MB). It comes with a charger and travel pouch. It has an Intel Celeron CPU running at 900MHz. The screen has a resolution of 800*480. The is an option for 800*600 but this scrolls the desktop rather than scales it (needed for XP menus that are taller than 480). Currently running a custom version of Windows XP (a valid key will be provided)

Test a 100% full battery and I got just over 2.5hrs screen on time (original specification states 3.5hrs). My test had the screen at 50% brightness and included a bit of web browsing, a little YouTube (ran terribly due to XP and browser HTML5 issues) and then a SD version of Avatar (average 30% CPU).

Issues:
  • Charging sometimes goes off and on
  • 'r' and 'k' keys do not work (occasionally)
  • charger has had a new plug fitted (laptop end not wall)

Sold to: Amiga Forever

EEE 901 - 16GB Kingspec SSD (upgraded) and 2GB RAM (upgraded from 1GB). It has a 'Hello Kitty' travel bag and charger. It is equipped with an Intel N270 CPU running at 1.6GHz. It comes with a Windows XP installed and still has the sticker on the bottom of the unit. Keyboard is fully working. Very good condition.

Issues:
  • Have to press F1 to boot (side effect of swapping the SSD, there is a work around apparently)
  • Windows could do with a reinstall (little old/slow)
  • Only comes with a neoprene bag and charger

The screen indoors is bright however in direct sunlight it's fairly difficult to see but not impossible. There are no scratches on the screen that I can find. Pictures and more info added initial post.

Not initially interested, but how are batteries holding on these?

Chrome which is one of the few browsers to support XP ran fine until I tried YouTube. At which point it took the CPU at 100% utilisation and only produced really bad choppy videos. Local playback worked flawlessly mind.

Just finished a battery test on the 701 and from a full charge I got just over 2.5hrs (original specification states 3.5hrs). My test had the screen at 50% brightness and included a bit of web browsing, a little YouTube (ran terribly due to XP and browser HTML5 issues) and then a SD version of Avatar (average 30% CPU).

First post updated with pictures and more information. This EEE PC doesn't have any real issues TBH

Not expressing interest (well I already have a 901), but - just in case its of any interest ....

The EEEPC 901 makes a great machine for DJing with battery powered sound systems :-)

Battery life is really very good (small screen, no spinning HD) - especially if you also turn off ethernet, wi-fi, bT.
The built-in audio is very useable.

Mine has the free version of Virtual DJ installed - I found a skin at the 901's res of 1024 x 600 - function keys assigned to samples for FX, a few VDJscripts assigned to some other tricks etc. It works really well !

Windows 7 works fine on EEEPC 901. You may have to hunt a little bit for drivers these days. I used one with Windows 7 for years.
