Hi, I want to introduce myself on the world of Atari with an 1040STE. But I'm worried about the PAL/NTSC difference since I live in America and those computer where less popular here. I use to face this challenge on my amiga600/1200 but end up mitigating the effect with those scandoubler you can install in those. On the atari it seem the best thing to do is to use an OSSC on the scart/rgb monitor output. I sourced an 1040STE power supply to swap and it seem quite straightforward to install.

Now my concern is, does it worth the trouble to buy an PAL atari since like for amiga, most demos where coded on the east side of the pound and assume PAL screen resolution, atari seem to have only one screen for NTSC and PAL system, unlike amiga ? Maybe 50/60 timing is important in that regard ?

PAL for both 8 and 16-bit Atari. These systems were very popular in Germany and Central/Eastern Europe (fact that Tramiel was Polish has alot to do with it) and plenty of productions originate from here.

You confirm it worth my effort to adapt an PAL Atari 1040STE to run in in America. I really appreciate it, thank you HanJammer.

True (and recommended to use RGB monitor anyway) but NTSC vs PAL goes beyond the way machine is encoding the picture for a TV. Although my knowledge of ST(e) hardware is limited I know it does also have at least a different TOS and slightly different main clock frequency. Generally it may affect how the software looks and at which speed it works. While this conversion is reversible it requires some soldering on the motherboard so being in the OPs shoes I would definitely do some more research before touching the soldering iron :)
