Hi,

I'm not sure what my best option is but my first computer was an Acorn Electron and I wouldn't mind playing some of the games like Repton, Ravenskull, Boxer, Hopper, Galaxians and try out any other games I missed out/couldn't play, like Revs, before I moved onto the Amstrad CPC but I can't live with loading games from cassette anymore and I don't have a floppy drive on my PC.

So I am thinking of a BBC Master 128 with an OS ROM switch and CF hard drive (preferably preloaded with games); would that would cover my needs?

Thanks in advance

The cheapest option if it's just for games is really just BBC Model B and TurboMMC or equivalent. Master 128's going to be twice the cost, an IDE CF hard drive setup will cost more than a TurboMMC type thing, it also will only run under ADFS and all the disc images you'll find on the web are set up for DFS.

If, on the other hand, you want more flexibility, Master 128 + CF IDE + UPURS (http://www.retro-kit.co.uk/UPURS/) + a couple of 3.25" floppy drives set up for the beeb should get you rocking. You probably don't need a switchable OS - 3.2 is fine for most things on the Master, very few had 3.5 installed (it was only an after market upgrade so nothing relies on it). However, there are a couple of games which don't get on with the Master in its native states and if it's really bugging you there is a rejigged version of the BBC OS that can be pushed into an eprom that can be made switchable... Feel free to ask if you have any other questions :) - unfortunately I don't have a Master or Beeb for sale though :(

Hi beaker,
I may have a Master 128 for you, I sent you an e-mail...

Bryce.

Thanks for the replies DanielJ and Bryce

After looking at a youtube video that TurboMMC looks pretty much what I am after. Do you know if it will work with the Master or is it only for the original BBC Model B?

I'll for Bryce to confirm he has a machine, and take it from there. Thanks again :D

Gone with Bryce's BBC Master 128, thanks

Next on the shopping list will be an RGB scart and Turbo MMC. Thanks for all your help.

Can one of the mods change the post to found or point me to instructions on how to do this myself?

Thanks again

Beaker
