Does that mean you are going to set up a bbs? That would be cool, especially for me as I live in the same state as you! I will eventually get the required hardware for my C64. And speaking of my C64, thanks for your help in getting it running!

@rob_santry Yes. As a kid I always wanted to setup a BBS but never had the money. I have a few modems now that I have been testing out. There is a BBS in the Portland(I think) area. The number is 503-646-2407. I have been going on there.
 
also, anyone who wants to dial-up BBSs the old fashioned way on a C64, i can recommend NovaTerm, it gave a pretty good 80-column screen even on a stock 64, I used it back in the day (93-96, prior to having the internet) to log into BBSs (largely IBM-based ones)

but there's lots more out there, i only briefly used telnet (and on windows...) so no familiarity with that on the 64/128
